Re: People who quit the game/took a break, why did you do so?
I started playing in 2007 and quit in the summer of 2017. I didn’t specifically decide to quit—I just sort of stopped playing and got more involved in other things.
I probably spent too much of my life on the game lol

Re: CM is bad for the game
Way back to GS’s point about buffing outposts instead, I’d really like to see outposts get significantly stronger, but perhaps have an even smaller build limit and a prohibitive radius that prevents players from stacking multiple outposts on one location. And having their attack scale with garrisone...

Definitely not a great idea, but if we’re talking about this thematically then why the heckin heck do your villagers automatically respect the religion and traditions of japanese opponents WITH WHOM THEY ARE AT WAR and refuse to shoot animals near their enemy’s shrine??

Saved on my computer from a couple years ago: What the fuck did you just fucking say about Jerom, you little bitch? I’ll have you know he graduated top of his class in Time to Micro, and has been involved in numerous secret raids on Tibia’s stream, and he has over 300 confirmed droptricks. He is tra...

Re: Tournament Ideas/Thoughts
I just used to organize and host lots of tournaments in gaming communities where similar discussions were had / conclusions were reached. AoE3 definitely has its own set of hurdles to overcome though that I'm not 100% how to deal with.

Re: Tournament Ideas/Thoughts
No distribution of PRs in given brackets is gonna stop the smurfing problem. The only way to do lower brackets with legit monetary prizes without opening yourself up to being taken advantage of is to have 100% perfect identity verification. AoE3 has absolutely terrible identity verification. Because...

Re: Tournament Ideas/Thoughts
Given AoE3's history of having multiple extremely shady tournament players who don't respect rules (this isn't to say that this is a majority of the playerbase--just that there's always been 1 or 2 people at any given time doing SOMETHING that's controversial or just straight up cheating), I would b...

Re: The Fallacy of W̶i̶n̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ Having Fun
When is the last time you saw a pro Chess player actually get checkmated outside of bullet/blitz? Just to answer this (doesn’t invalidate the rest of your points about Go and I don’t think we really disagree WRT AoE3 or why people resign), Peter Svidler let Carlsen checkmate him in classical like a...

Re: The Fallacy of W̶i̶n̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ Having Fun
Chess is a bit different from Go. Just in the last year there was a pretty famous case of Hikaru Nakamura getting pissed at a young GM (Praggnanandha) for not resigning when he was in a "lost" position. However, Praggnanandha WON that game. There are situations where you may be theoretical...

Is the the actual SavoryBeef in the tournament?? I only remember him waaayyyy back from the early agecomm days It's not that guy, it's princeofcarthage using a fake (Sav0ryBeef) account. Savory Beef was an old school treaty guy, right? Like him, hidan, milky, whiteirishking, maybe others I'm forget...

Re: Sunday Smackdown #10 - Factory Wagon Start
I doubt you'll have 20 huss at 6 minutes. 10 or probably 15 seems more accurate. You can have 10 huss at 6:30 without a factory... I think switching to HC after queueing the colonial age might be worth it. But if your opponent does it slightly later but in time to have the HC out for defensive purp...

Re: Shipment System
It’s a good idea that’s been discussed before. It would definitely require a fair bit of rebalancing. Certain civs would need to receive a few extra eco cards, one or two civs may even need a couple of eco cards removed or adjusted. Then there’s military upgrades. British for example doesn’t normal...

Re: NWC Tournament Disqualifications - Tit and kynesie
Yeah the civilization restriction is really the operative thing here though. Even in alternating pick, if you win a bunch of games in a row, you're going to lose access to probably some of your best civs. That's really the rule that punishes you for winning IMO and starts creating imbalance between ...

Re: NWC Tournament Disqualifications - Tit and kynesie
The fact that momentum changes the odds doesn't mean it changes the odds enough to make intentionally losing worth it. It doesn't mean the player who loses games has an advantage in the series. That was never my or anyone else's claim. You are arguing against an imaginary position. Convenient, isn'...

Re: NWC Tournament Disqualifications - Tit and kynesie
WPF is totally fine but with civ freedom of choice. When you can't pick the winning civ anymore that's a double advantage to the temporary loser. This is why we need tri-civ rule I agree with this generally. IMO the most competitively balanced environment is one where players are free to choose wha...

Re: NWC Tournament Disqualifications - Tit and kynesie
I think this issue has always come down to players who win a lot being generally annoyed that they have to slog through a bunch of series never getting counterpicks because they sweep their opponents, and it feels bad to never get to play matchups you enjoy. Consequently, the common thread is always...

Momentum. Maps. Staying in the series longer gives you more potential for a comeback. It's not just a question of statistics. We've had this discussion before btw m I look forward to the strategic forfeitures at LAN that will take advantage of this counterpick momentum to propel players to victorie...

Re: NWC Tournament Disqualifications - Tit and kynesie
Having the loser counter pick rewards losing and punishes winning. This is a fact. Contrary to the strawman that u1971 keeps using, counterpicking one game doesn't give as big an advantage in a series as actually winning a game obviously, but it's an advantage nonetheless. The point robo made is ve...
