Re: Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is delayed until 2018

I'm so pleased to see they aren't rushing out a half baked product.

Massive props to Microsoft, shows they're dedicated to the user experience and not all about money.

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

Finally, before I go to bed. I just wanted to say that I kind of agree that changing the TC build limit to +1 per age (or similar) would be a much 'cleaner' way of handling this. I categorically agree with Mitoe. I actually think this is the sort of change that could be very healthy for the game. Ev...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

Could I argue that 2.75 c/s from a bank translates to the equivalent of 4.16 vils with placer mines (2.75/0.66)? Which for the sake of standardisation/comparison; there same value 'retasked' to food income is 4.16 f/s. Food income is how 'resources paid back' is calculated for the Covered Wagon so i...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

With regards to the maths TC opportunity cost = 700 (top tier colonial shipment) - 100 (TC provides 10 pop) + 100 for each vil + 10 for each vil (cost of 1 pop for each vil you wouldn't usually make) Bank = 700 Resources are payed back at 1/s for vils (roughly how fast they gather food with hunting ...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

AOE3 is a nostalgic game, yes. Thousands will flock back to experience it - perhaps even 10x the current user base - who knows... What I do know though is that MS have sunk thousands into this franchise reboot and will likely spend thousands more. That AOE4 trailer voiced by Charles Dance (Tywin Lan...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

I'm pleased you think it's interesting :), I hope there are some other interesting changes that are less controversial __________________ I just feel like an ATP build would be at least as good as a secondary TC, perhaps better But we don't really see that as French/Ger You have to make 34 extra vil...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

The TC takes 14 minutes before it becomes more worthwhile than a bank (assuming none of those extra vils gets belled up from your lack of units...) EDIT: you'll also be plowing through your hunts/mines much faster then surely unable to push out for more? It is a big investment But French and Germans...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

you can build strats around that to outlast the opponent in the long run. Oh hey, a new style. the meta would just adapt to this and then you would see stuff like TC+vill naked FF instead of semi FFs. Basically what remains is that some civs would benefit more than others and it would change all ti...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

With regards to comparing the TC to a bank, I'd argue the bank is better for a considerably long time (economically speaking of course, see sheet) You are right though about the intangible benefits of MM and TC fire The bank has a linear return so starts repaying it's opportunity cost much more quic...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

Still takes around 5 minutes to pay off for Otto, though after that it starts getting silly quite quickly haha _________ Factors in vil pop cost compared to alternate methods of booming e.g., stagecoach EDIT: also, Otto would have to get steel traps for this repayment rate. Which involves spending n...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

I like the idea on paper actually. I would amend it from "raising TC limit by 1" to "raising COLONIAL TC limit by 1". Then when you hit Fortress you're still at a limit of 3. Fair point, I'm down with that. And yes, I think you might send it as Ports (if your opponent is French/...

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

That's how I imagine it playing out.

Though I'm not as nearly experienced as Garja & Kaiser whose intuition I trust a lot more.

I wonder though if it really would be that good if were to test it for fun

Re: Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

I personally don't think it makes Ports any less unique, I feel like their bonus is they have cheaper settlers and get TCs for free upon every age. Sending a shipment for a one time TC doesn't really feel in the same league for me. Ports can also send this card if they wanted And I hear what your sa...

Card would obviously also have to increase TC build limit by 1 for those clever clogs that feel the need to point this out :hmm:

Moving the Covered Wagon shipment to the Colonial Age

Not a suggestion.

However, I am curious what the balance implications might be?

With DE coming, I think it'll be fun to ask these kind of of questions.

Re: AoE3DE Polish and Balance

Card balance/reworks is definitely a discussion the community needs to start having soon. So thank you 7540 for getting things started, you are right that there are many civs with several objectively bad cards that never see play (not to mention, politicians!) I hope this changes for the sake of re-...

Re: AOE3:DE Proposal To Microsoft

From a business perspective - why spend a lot of money trying to please a small community of players? Sure ESOC has done an excellent job keeping the community alive (and thanks alot for this) but this .DE version is not made solely for us. It is made in the hopes that some of the 100-thousands tha...

Re: AOE3:DE Proposal To Microsoft

One thing I think they could change and would improve the game in the eyes of many naysayers is removing decks and HC levels. Removing HC levels is a nobrainer, removing decks less so. My reasoning: I think the fact that you need to commit to a certain (fairly large, admittedly) selection of strate...

Re: AOE3:DE Proposal To Microsoft

Love the writeup. As someone above me mentioned, a priority list would help a lot in ensuring the most important points are included in the DE. I only disagree on two things: 1) Backherding is not actually a bug: herds are designed to remain within a certain radius from their starting location, and...
