What's the point of being a crossbowman if you don't have a multiplier against heavy infantary

They are vanilla crossbowmen but with a multiplier vs. light cavalry.

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

The export from the shrine is really only that valuable imo if you are on maps with a water spawn point, as you can get the 3 boats which is huge. If you are on a land map, I think the rax and samurai are better in most cases, and honestly the XP bonus is equal if not better than the toshogu gather ...

Re: German Merc Spam & Healers

The main problem with healers is that they are awkward to train and even more awkward to use, as you almost never build a church and your army is almost never idle long enough to heal units an appreciable amount.

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

From my experience, the shogunate is also a practical wonder to age 2, as the 400 XP means you can either send 2 shipments in age 1 and still have one when you hit age 2, or you can get 3 back-to-back shipments in early age 2. Also the unit cost reduction (essentially +5% eco bonus or more) and trai...

it does. Seminole, tupi, and carib TP's affect bow riders, as well as Team ranged infantry combat (french card).

Re: France starting crates market

Aging 13 seems like a very good thing to do if going for a stagecoach boom, but other than that it seems to be slightly worse than market/TP with 14 CDBs, cause you can't make military right away anyway cause you need to build TP, build market, research market techs and don't have the resources, I ...

Re: France starting crates market

Yeah I think going 13 vills on 100w start is the best option, as you get an easily idle-less age up, and with a tp first in transiton, you easily get your first shipment 30 seconds sooner, and you can get 2 back-to-back shipments.

i'll veto hudson bay myself.

What is your timezone and when is it best for you to play? I am working for most of this week, though my schedule is fairly flexible so I might be able to squeeze something in. I am GMT -4, and the best times for me to play are 12-14.5gmt and 24+gmt.

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

I would do normal play, just with 2v or 3 boats first and more focus on market techs than shrines. Azzy gets insane xp income from sieging shrines, so I always like to boom in a different way. Torrii gates are OK, but the 20 population you get from the toshogu is so vital when doing anything aggress...

Re: How many civs one should master?

I think playing what you like is important, but I would also focus on playing civs that teach you the mechanics of the game and that can give you skills that are transferable to other civs. mechanics is a very little part of aoe though.. being clever and able to adapt is as important probably.. so ...

Re: ESOC Patch balance poll #5

What about doing a forward rax and pressure with a few skirms instead of huss? Yes, you are fairly vaulnerable to disciples, but if you keep your distance you can pick them off fairly easily, and the range would be super helpful in picking off villagers. Not to mention skirms cost less food and more...

Re: How many civs one should master?

I would go for euro civs only. Probably try Brits, french and germans. They are three of the strongest and more adaptable civs in the game, and also some of the simplest. Also, once you know them, all of the other euro civs come very naturally.

Re: ESOC Patch balance poll #5

Why would you go stagecoach vs Dutch when you need to be agressive against them and punish 1000 w? Why do you want to be agressive? The longer the game goes the better is for China. Most of Euro civs, including Dutch, cant deal with China units after both upgrades (especially the cav one). Stagecoa...

Re: ESOC Patch balance poll #5

If china does stagecoach-semi then they are giving up one of the most important things they have in that matchup: speed. Dutch can age around 7:30 with a 5 bank ff and china can do the same, but dutch will probably have to send 1k wood to lay down the rest of their military buildings and houses, but...
