Re: how do you counter hide and seek?

Have some eco on untouchable stuff (water, TPs), be sure you control the access to an area of the map where vills are. Having vills spread better. Leave some units (usually pikes) to atleast buy time to move vills. Also maybe drop a tower to secure key resources, etc. You generally don't want to bas...

Re: how do you counter hide and seek?

Either do more damage yourself or try to regroup so that you have a safer position and he has an exposed one. I think French are a bit better at doing that because of cdbs. Brits tho have manors for LOS and respam vills.

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

You can buy time in in many ways with Japan vs straight FFs. Raids, bit of walling, etc. Also can do vill pulls, MM card, etc. As long as you have a decent start you shouldn't have problem vs FFs (China one tho is very good and still sub 8 min time). And ashi are still good, pricy but good. 0.5 spee...

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

Otto shouldnt be bad on EP, Brit dont really win I think, China is close, Dutch shouldnt be a problem, Spain also very beatable.

Re: Going agaibst brit vc

Forward houses are just asking to be sieged. Unless it is blatantly a way for the brit player to buy time, there is no reason to nor siege them. Especially with a sizeable army. That extra pop space wil be important later when armies get big. Also the extra vill will take some time to repay the 35w ...

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

7 besteiros, also 27 attack seems too much, that's prob in age III. They are good anyway. Funny fact you get 11 of them with intervention. Japan is not bad at all on EP. Objectively they still win at least half of MUs (prob more). Personally speaking, they also have lot of potential if played as you...

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

kami and tori is just inferior because of no cons (I assume) and no shrine boost. The shrine boost is actually big. It should be like 100% (was 200% or so in 2008 I think). You can try TP+2v+kami which is good eco and you have a safer early colo but it didnt seem anything special when I tried it. To...

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

Ye besteiros are good. I also think the toshogu boost ito shrines is more than that. Also btw you can get 3 boats from the port cons.

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

I mean you can do other adaptations than changing wonder and skipping consulate. In team you always have more margin for defense. Anyway the biggest drawback of this strat is harder decision calls. With classic strat you just survive and autowin. With this strat you actually need to make something h...

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

Tori is not going to give more eco. That's for sure. The point is rather which style is more effective in 1v1. In team you dont need to cut eco. Tori gives the chance to push out at some point woth more or less eco. Problem is usually that's not enough to swing the game in your favor and then you ne...

Re: Japanese strat(Anti aztec build)

Any tactic change will make them up. That's why if it dies in cover mode you need to use another tactic. Just don't abuse it, it's a glitch.

Re: Does a player have his limit?

Yes that is what defines a prodigy, and that is exactly what all 3 of his daughters were. Judit Polgar is undisputably the strongest female chess player of all time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judit_Polgár I know Judith Polgar (didnt know the story about her sisters) but she's clearly not an a...

Re: Does a player have his limit?

Anyone with the same physical capabilities, sure. Talent exists, and is a bigger deal in physical sports. This includes mechanical RTS, where mouse control and reflexes are as if not more important than decision making. This as opposed to fields of science and games like chess, where physical abili...

Re: Does a player have his limit?

Sure, but thats not relevant here. This experiment is all about the teacher. Its not very effective to sit around fingers crossed hoping a kid chooses to study chess with that much focus on its own. The theory is that a prodigy can be made from any healthy child. Well we were making a bigger argume...

Self-taught people? Several great chess players learnt chess rules and chess theory by themselves.

Re: Age of Empires 4?

Actually the concept of stilized graphics rather than realistic one is great, especially if combined with pc resource saving.
The problem of AOE is more that models are too small and circularly shaped. To me it is hard to click on single objects and the game in general seems made for big ass screens.

Re: Does a player have his limit?

Its not IQ at all. I have lot of examples. One of my friend played fifa a lot. He loved to play with it. He was a top fifa player back in the day. One of my other friend played nfs drifts a lot, cause he loved it and he was kinda unbeatable also. Or you can see any rpgs. There are tutorial movies w...

Re: Does a player have his limit?

IQ also tests spacial intelligence (questions with figures, etc.) which is very relevant for gaming (and sports). And I'm pretty sure that depends a lot on genetics. Anyway nature vs nurture is a long time debated topic in learming processes I think. Check the "Art of learning" by Josh wai...

Probably Germans. French and Dutch can be beaten, vs Germans is harder. But it depends on crate starts and other conditions.

Re: ESOC Patch balance poll #5

I think chokus have 30% rr. Anyway it is all about the trade off between cost and reward. The reward had to be somehow nerfed so that the card doesnt become an insta win. Sure we can try 60% boost and cost but how do you test the viability and compare it to 50%? Units stats seem fine. Range is overr...

Re: ESOC Patch balance poll #5

I'd rather nerf the card cost to 500f, which just makes sense since all the other effects are halved too.
