Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

Free market tech is such an ugly change. Thank god we didn't fall for the same trick of the old ASFP by using that.

Re: Countering Musketeer spam as China?

Defending a musk rush should be your bread and butter with any FF. Just use TC and unit shipments/from age up timed well. Then in fortress you have plenty of good cards vs anything, musks included.
Pure musk rush can also be heavy punished by just old han colonial.

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

15 secs idle is nowhere close to being that bad. It's basically 0.64f * 15 * number of vills after that. Basically in the first 10 minutes of game it is about 170f lost, so pretty much irrelevant. Seriously, in 99% of games you're going to have 15 secs idle TC anyway over the course of the game. Tha...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

Is bow rushing really a thing nowadays? How does brit struggle against a bow rush, and even japan? It's not like bows beat musks/ashis, let alone lbs/yumis... Even when I play on fucking nilla now they do semi ffs lol, a couple years ago it was tower rushes or double rax bow rushes everywhere If yo...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

Ashigarus are another example of sub-efficient tool (early on) but with long term huge potential. And I'm not talking only about the way they scale with several upgrades but the fact that they can also win games with raids. Ashigaru speed + somewhat hard to damage eco (as opposed to just raiding you...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

Age up time is the most overrated problem of Japan and of other Asian civs. If it were the single major problem, one could simply pay some idle time (most times it is less than 25 seconds) and skip the last vill to reach 800f a bit earlier. In fact that's what I've been doing with certain strats wit...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

Ye I thought about that. From a balance standpoint a single 3v card would be ok. However from a design point it creates an exception. We can test this but personally I would leave this option as a last resort because of that. I was thinking tho that even 3v + kami card is quite powerful. Kami card i...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

That way Japan could send 3v twice, especially with at TP. That would be certainly too good. Nerfing yumi attack isn't ideal imo because it makes even harder to deal with rushes. The yumi card nerf effect is only from fortress and on where yumi really get out of control. I do see the reasons behind ...

Re: Portuguese Discussion Thread

What +100 f actually means for Ports? And again, I proposed +100f at start so that they always age at 13v idleless. This translates in more efficiency which means they can mirror what similar civs do, despite having no vill shipments. 100f is the equivalent of a 90f treasure when the opponent gets ...

Re: Portuguese Discussion Thread

Tweaking starting vills isnt exactly something you want to do in 2018 when standards have been estabilished. In the case of Port, given the already existent exception, I guess we could test a 8v start with -100f.

Re: Dragoon in melee VS Dragoon in range

It's ok as last effort move. The difference in dps is not that much when pathing is considered. Most of times it's better to keep them in ranged mode for practical reasons.

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

By the way, I just wanna throw another strategic idea worth testing in my opinion. This time with the classic port consulate shrine boom. Cutting vills in the transition to colonial and moving all of them to wood to drop more shrines. The idea is that this way your shrine count is higher early on an...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

I'm not a fan of 300w honestly. I'd prefer a solid 2v. But I agree, if anything, that the value of the cards for Asian civs should be considered in the light of their practical use before anything else. Since Asian civs always end up with more eco than other civs by the time they hit colonial (at le...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

How can a start where you have to gather 50w and still have 75c left and then have to age with 800f be good? You buy the wood obviously. So it's only 50g to gather and actually less than that with a coin treasure. You also spare 50w in the process and your first shrine should be up a little earlier...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

Nah. Japs can "hold" Brits just as many times Brits manage to kill Japan before it gets out of control, if not more. I'd say the only civs that Japan really struggle to handle are India, Aztecs, Russia, maybe Iro and Otto still. Semi FF civs with shrine hunting + age up can be gnarly, but ...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

Safer resources is indeed an indirect nerf to originary Japan, a legit one of course.
More hunts however is not necessarily bad for Japan because of better shrining.
I agree that reverts of old nerfs should always been looked first when considering buffing a civ.

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

Yep, and shogunate bug.
Anyway, it is indeed possible to make other wonders more viable but, as I said, the moment they become viable the buff is too big. For example shogunate could be a viable colonial wonder if it provided a daimyo instead of the XP but that would be too good.

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread

How about decreasing Shrine cost by 5w? Reasonable, but probably too good. I mean, are we straight up assuming Jap is really struggling that much to deserve an actual generic buff? We can test that. We might as well buff shrines base gathering rates slightly and increase the cost of tempo reforms (...
