Why should a casted game be any different than a non-casted one? Non-casted games don't get rehosts.

Sounds like the shortcut isn't actually pointing to the file anymore. If you browse to C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\age of empires 3\bin\, is the ESOCpatchlauncher.exe there?

Just a bug report: the active topics page doesn’t show up in the sidebar on devices (e.g. iPad) that are small enough to not have the right homepage sidebar but are big enough to not be full mobile.
