It's a tournament, there is even money involved. People are gonna try to win, not risk losing by experimenting with much worse civs unless they have a HUGE skill advantage.

I'm sorry but you have no idea how much stronger those OP civs are compared to other civs, especially in treaty.

You're criticising that banning will lead to less diversity but it's the opposite. If we allowed all civs we would see a french mirror in every single game.

Cause you can run around with daymios/the shogun, train 10 mortars in like 5 seconds at your opponent's walls and then run with them into your opponent's base and train 30 ashi directly. Daymio running is the main reason why they're OP.

And you usually always send the eco cards, then the training cards, advanced arsenal and then all the military upgrade cards. Also if you siege and destroy a pillar the 2 longer segments on the right and left side will be destroyed, without pillars you can only break one large segment at a time.

Only gendarme should be easily countered by ranged cav with a meatshield of musketeers in front of it. Best unit combo would be dopp/war wagon I guess but once the french player mixes in skirms its gg anyways.
