Re: Fast Game Speed Tournament
Nilla (with a few balance changes and new maps) is imo much, much better than EP for tournaments and competitive play due to its balance and greater focus on mechanics and finely-tuned strategy. However, EP, with its additional civs and mechanics is the more fun game for less competitive players.

Re: Anyone find yumi a bit overrated (compared to ashi/nagi)?
Ashi/nagi in my experience is actually quite good in some matchups, especially when the games are scrappy. Yumi are quite strong, don't get me wrong, but they only get game-winningly strong once you have a mass and at least disciplined+golden pavilion, ideally WoB or Yumi attack as well. The biggest...

Re: Intervention, A New Hope
I imagine intervention on german cons would be pretty strong against fre/azzy/mirror where they could mix in with the changao nicely and trade really well with cuirs/coyo/china cav and changdao. Mitoe and others have also shown that the trickles are fairly strong (combined ~4 vills for 500 export th...

I would argue that heavenly kami isn't a must-have for Japan . Yumi attack and 2 cherry orchards definitely though.

Re: How to beat a Daimyo rush?
I mean if he is going quad unit shipments that is just a free win so long as you don't die. Start musks, herd aggressively and early, and try to kill his Daimyo (remember, the tower has a 1.5x multiplier vs. cav). Longbows and/or huss should be mixed in after you have a decent (~15) musk mass. Longb...

Shipping cherry orchards twice is also suboptimal in almost all instances anyway, better off sending a rice paddy card.

Re: Any Japan strats with the Dutch consulate?
If you don't go port consulate you'll have about enough export (if you aged with toshogu) for allying with dutch and for the bank by about 8 minutes. Here's an equation you can use to calculate how much export you'll have gathered by a certain time (t, in minutes), it doesn't take into account villa...

Re: ESOC Patch suggestions, comments and discussion
@dansil92 The coin cost isn't what is prohibitive about veteran upgrades, it's the wood cost. 200w, 100c wouldn't really change all that much IMO because wood is so much more valuable and rare in early fortress.

Re: ESOC Patch suggestions, comments and discussion
Has there been any discussion about standardizing/changing the costs of unit upgrades? I think if we are worried about exiled-prince-skirm-goon-3-hands-on-dick-semi-ff play, reducing and standardizing the cost of veteran unit upgrades to 150w/c or 100w/200c would be a good change. There has also bee...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread
I think the fact that we only really talk about japan scaling in team games, and that no one really brings it up in 1v1 discussions, is totally indicative of a problem that is as old as time: people underestimate Japan or simply have no idea how to play against them. u6 is right, ...

Re: Japanese Discussion Thread
Japan's military scaling is counter-acted by their pretty terrible late game economy. They get insane units at the expense of pretty much 20% less resource income. 75 vills + 22 age 4 shrines is barely equivalent to 99 vills, and if Japan's opponents are doing well, they should have killed is toshog...

Re: EP Uhlan Hitpoints Poll
Just revert all german changes (except for lipizzaner buff, that is essential for team games) and give them 250w TP's in age 1. Decreasing Trading Post xp income seems like a better idea. Bah this is silly. If we just got rid of mf-ing random crates so many of these stupid balance debates just woul...

I feel like as dutch you either need to FF quickly (like 2 card 3/4-bank FF) and start poking with skirms as early as possible, or do 4/5 bank huss semi and try to bell the chinese player up as much as possible to prevent them from aging too quickly. If you can force them to stay fortress I feel li...

Re: 150 Resources Units
First and foremost, I see it as a balance issue. For example, 2-population Cossacks would break balance. I fail to see why all units with the same resource cost must have the same population cost, in the first place. I'm considering trying 2-population Eagle Runner Knights, though. It makes sense o...

Re: More non-Standard Maps will make EP Better
I love Great Lakes too, it's the first map that comes to mind when I think of great non-standard maps. I would absolutely love to see the spring/summer version rebalanced or remade and used in the winter tournament. Honestly, Texas with maybe an extra herd per player (so that you don't run out of fo...

Lancers with ep cabelleros seem like they'd be absolutely lethal in this mu. Extra range would make their pathing in deathball engagements so much more favorable, and if you could get cav combat too it'd mean that they 2-shot chagdao, which is kinda absurd. I get that huss are more favourable in a c...

2v2 is way different than 3v3. 2v2 builds should be essentially the same as 1v1, but in 3v3 I think double blockhouse starts without 5 coss first are way more viable.
