Re: ESOCP is a Virus?
AVG is pretty quick to delete files it doesn't like without asking a user. When it deletes something it puts it in its "virus vault" from which you can restore files. Rather than reinstalling, I would try restoring the file from the vault -- hopefully after doing that AVG would leave it alone.

Full disclosure: the reason AVG deletes it is because we inject some DLLs into the AoE3 process as part of the patch. This behavior is similar to what some viruses do to get elevated priveledges on your computer, but I assure you nothing in the ESOC Patch is malicious.

Avg is bad. Use defender and malwarebytes instead.

Not sure about that. My best guess is it's trying to copy that file over, but it already exists from a previous install attempt. If that's the case, things may just work if you ignore this error.

Is this during the install process or at launch?

Re: ESOCP is a Virus?
Can you confirm that in your installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age Of Empires 3\bin for a Steam install) all three of ESOCP1.dll, ESOCP2.dll, and ESOCP3.dll are present? The Visual C++ warning can appear if one them is missing. If any are missing, I attached a copy of all three in a zip -- you can unzip the file and put the DLLs in the installation folder.
Sorry about all the trouble you're having!

My shitass comp doesnt allow me to copy the missing one into the bin folder. (Yes I entered Admin PW when trying)

Maybe try booting into safe mode and moving the file? It is possible some service running is preventing it from copying.

bitdefender detected and contained a trojan generic in the ep files, and won't let me use ep anymore. this is new, and im not sure if i should allow the program to be used or not. are you guys sure ep cant be compromised? i had already deleted the file using bitdefender before, and reinstalled EP, but then it just detected the same file again. @musketeer925 @_H2O

Some dll's are injected in the game which is the same method how virus works. So your antivirus may think its a virus, but there won't be any problem.

Still cant use the game though... Is there no way to change this?
Re: ESOCP is a Virus?
You can
- disable real time scanning
- put esocp3.dll in exception list

Re: ESOCP is a Virus?
Most definately not. All anti-viruses give it that alert because it's an unknown exe. Just give it an exeption. All will be well.
