Windows 10 has Windows Defender real-time protection built-in. Try temporarily disabling that?

I use win10 myself so this is not likely to be the culprit but running out of ideas to try.

I actually had to go turn it back on and then disable it. I use something called shutup10 to turn off as much ms stuff as possible

but yeah, that didn't work either

Well aoe3 is a Microsoft program aswell.

Maybe one of these extra things you have installed like shutup10 is not compatible with EP and shuts it down.

Then rename "DataPY.bar" to "DataPY.bk.bar" and "DataPF.bar" to "DataPY.bar"

That way do we know what is causing the problem, if is the exe or bar.
Let me know what happens.

i built the computer myself, buying a new one would make no sense. what do i replace? motherboard can't be incompatible with the EP, a completely wiped SSD can't either. there can't be anything at a hardware level which causes problems :p

Edit, wait a second, i'm retarded, I ran age3f.exe

After doing [ rename "DataPY.bar" to "DataPY.bk.bar" and "DataPF.bar" to "DataPY.bar" ], I then hit age3y.exe and the game loaded.

That said, when I loaded an EP replay, it went OOS. I tried to go on ESO and the game was CRC mismatch with EP users.

Nonetheless, the game loaded. I'm guessing that my problem is with the age3f.exe ? Is that also your diagnose?

Until you find the solution, you could maybe try to play in a Virtual Box if it's graphically possible.

It's a long shot, but I'll throw a few random ideas in here. I haven't encountered this specific issue, but I know EP problems are often related to graphics for whatever reason, so I'll go from there.

Try to mess with the game's graphic settings on RE and see if it helps. I would try turning everything to lowest quality, toggle windowed mode, test various full-screen resolutions. If you have multiple graphic cards (one integrated is quite common these days), try disabling one or the other and see if it changes anything.

Gave that a try, didn't end up working out either.

Virtual box isn't practical and I couldn't get it to even work

Try to deactivate your antivirus software or firewall and check if the EP works fine

i don't have antivirus software and went out of my way to deactivate windows defender permanently (winaero tweaker if you're curious)

So at this point we'd have to assume the ep installer is fucking something up right? Maybe its interesting to show what the install looks like?

the launcher itself works fine

it's probably the age3f.exe which isn't working properly for some reason. i'm not sure what it is on my end, reinstalling doesn't help neither did reformat. i'm assuming, at this point, that things may fix themselves when a new version of EP is released

The EP launches and I just watched a replay from tourney. All is good. I don't know what precisely was wrong before, but now it works.
