Age of Empires 3 has stopped working, ESOC patch only.

- Win 10 (64 bit)
- Patch version V 2.0
- Downloaded patch from sidebar, installed it after uninstall previous patch launcher
- age3f.exe gives me "Age of Empires 3 has stopped working", age3y.exe works normally.

Naive question, but did you try to start it as admin yet?

Yep. It's a no go. I have the screen with the coin turning on itself and then the game just crashes. 100% EP only

It's fixed for him for some reason after El Bucket said things should work again. I am wrong to assume that this is something wrong on the EP's end?

Edit: maybe it's the AD mod I installed? i have age3s.exe in there

Edit: deleted a bunch of folders in my install, had steam re-download it

RE works perfectly fine, EP refuses to launch regardless of what I do.

Yeah, pretty much. Spinning coin and then the game "has stopped working" (see screenshot). Always EP, RE works fine.

I'm not sure what else to do at this point.

Looks like I have the same issue as you do. How did you fix this problem?

Download here: download/file.php?patch=1.2.0.1
And install the version 1.2 of patch.
When you run the launcher it will ask to update the patch, ignore that and launch the game.
Let me know what happen.

I am going to completely delete my aoe3 steam folder and then I guess I'll try to reinstall from scratch. it's my only hope now

sucks because my bandwidth is so bad

Try removing Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\Users3\NewProfile3.xml (move it somewhere else for now so we don't lose its settings completely). I've heard it can hold up the game like that at the loading screen.

I already tried removing the documents folder (all of it and I didn't back up my hotkeys, q_q), that wasn't a work-around either.

I'm going to brute-force this and see how it works out. I probably messed up my EP installation in my steam folder somehow. Going to try to delete all aoe3 related folders, then try to reinstall, then install EP. See how that works out. Thank you for the help

ok i finished downloading it entirely after a 100% install

and, just as before, RE works perfectly fine, EP crashes

any ideas? is there some obscure sub folder i should be deleting? @musketeer925

Try running with your antivirus disabled? How are your starting EP? Try by right clicking age3f.exe and doing run as admin

Windows 10 has Windows Defender real-time protection built-in. Try temporarily disabling that?

I use win10 myself so this is not likely to be the culprit but running out of ideas to try.

I actually had to go turn it back on and then disable it. I use something called shutup10 to turn off as much ms stuff as possible

but yeah, that didn't work either

i'm also out of ideas
