UPDATED: Group Stage Rules

UPDATE: The group-stage format has been changed to Best-of-3 Round Robin. There are no civilization restrictions for the group stage. That means you can play any civ you like in any game of the series. Repeat civilizations is also allowed.
Map Pool:
1) ESOC High Plains
2) ESOC Hudson Bay
3) ESOC Kamchatka
If you have ALREADY played your match before this update, it will still be recognized as a win/loss.
All games must be played on ESOC Patch.
All games must be recorded, or they may be deemed invalid.
One reset per player per match. Resets are only valid before 2 minutes and only for map-related issues. Treasures are not a valid reason for reset.
At the end of the group stage, the top 2 players in each group will advance to the bracket stage.
In the event of a threeway tie, the group outcome will be decided by a playoff on the last weekend of the group stage.

Re: Group Stage Rules
Looks great. Is it a BO1 or a BO3 in the Group Stage?
Re: Group Stage Rules

Re: Group Stage Rules
mr. mankl told me to "just win my games" but I don't find this a valid excuse.
Re: Group Stage Rules
What is the reason not to do BO3? Not only does that mean that my main civs might get counterraped without me having a possibility to play them, thats also just less fun. This way I might play 3 games and be out, while I could also be playing 9 games at the very least.

Maybe you shouldn't have only played dutch all your life
Re: Group Stage Rules
No BO3 is stupid, but THE COMPLETE LACK OF FORMAT RULES IS SHOCKING.
I presume this is BO1 round-robin, but I did expect the rules to explain this...

Re: UPDATED: Group Stage Rules
This was my mistake for not clarifying. It was originally intended to be Best-of-1, but since the overwhelming majority of players seem to want Best-of-3, the format has been changed.
Re: UPDATED: Group Stage Rules
So no civilization means can play same civ 3 times? Or regular rules.
mad cuz bad

Absolutely. This entire thing was generated using a program I wrote. Would be happy to show you the seeded outputs as well. We do not have them in a friendly form to share. I can send you a table on skype if your super interested.
Basically groups work like this:
Seeds 1 - 32 are seeded to brackets
Seeds 33 - 160 are seeded to groups.
These seeds will be reduced to seeds 33-96 by the end of the group stage (See below)
Seeds 97-128 are Bye seeds given to the seeded players
Groups go like this
Group 1:
(32 + 1) + 32 * 0 = 33
(32 + 1) + 32 * 1 = 65
(32 + 1) + 32 * 2 = 97
(32 + 1) + 32 * 3 = 129
Group 2:
(32 + 2) + 32 * 0 = 34
(32 + 2) + 32 * 1 = 66
(32 + 2) + 32 * 2 = 98
(32 + 2) + 32 * 3 = 130
....
....
....
Group 32:
(32 + 32) + 32 * 0 = 64
(32 + 32) + 32 * 1 = 96
(32 + 32) + 32 * 2 = 128
(32 + 32) + 32 * 3 = 160
These groups are then mapped to bracket spots in the Round of 128 based on the seeds in the top two slots. This is done in the same way a normal bracket. So if you finish top of group 1 your seed is 33. That seed is then used to place you into the RO128 brackets.
By this logic only seeds 33-96 are assigned coming out of the group stage (The top 2 seed spots in each group).
Now we have a RO128 Bracket that is seeded in the same way as a traditional bracket
Seeds 1-32 are pre-seeded players
Seeds 33-96 are group stage top 2 players
Seeds 97-128 are empty for the pre-seeded players
This linking is all done automatically and is updated as the results of group stage roll in.
You can see this projection here in the linked brackets below. Right now since no results are in it is merely sorted by seed. The top 2 players in each group are marked by a ** meaning they are not confirmed. I would also like to mention that the players facing eachother in the RO128 will be from different groups. That is the nature of how this process works. For Group 1, seed 33 will be in a completely different spot than seed 97.
