Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May
8 players, 150 dollar prizepool
streamed on twitch.tv/esoctv

Day one of the ESOC Invitational is complete and we’ve halved the amount of players still in the race for the first place. Kaiserklein, PrinceofKabul, Diarouga and Mitoe remain to challenge for the prize.

Day one recap
The day started off with Diarouga vs Garja. Game one was a Brit mirror where Garja didn’t manage to safely set up his fb and lost the age up tower, which quickly snowballed into a victory for Diarouga. In game 2, an Aztec mirror, Garja seemed to have a strong timing window because he elected to cut the 5 vill shipment. It almost seemed as if Diarouga was going to crumble under the pressure, but he managed to stabilize and ended up pulling ahead due to his five extra villagers, closing out the series 2-0.

The second series was PrinceofKabul vs Ramex12. The first match up was Prince playing as France versus Ramex’s China. Prince decided to go for a pretty aggressive strat, pressuring Ramex’s China FF with a musk huss combo. Ramex managed to stabilize, but he lost 6 vills in the progress. Even China’s shipments couldn’t bail him out and Prince took the game after overwhelming Ramex with a Cuirasier heavy composition. In game 2, Prince picked Germany against Ramex’s France. Ramex managed to pressure Prince nicely, doing a quick semi FF and pressuring him with 2 falcs. Prince’s TC started to get low, but he managed to pop 5 WWs and ship 3 WWs to save his TC and fend off Ramex. At first it seemed the damage had been done by Ramex, but after a series of good engagements for Prince he took back control of the game. It stayed close until Ramex overengaged with not enough anti cav while Prince had just shipped 8 Uhlans. Prince ended up annihilating Ramex’s army and closing out the game to advance to the semi-finals.

Next up was Kaiserklein vs Marechal_Rondon. Game one, Marechal decided to pick Japan while Kaiserklein played France. Kaiserklein did a really tricky build where he tricked Marechal into thinking he was doing a pike semi FF. Marechal took the bait and made 5 ashigarus to then save up for the age up. Kaiser, however, wasn’t doing a semi FF but instead aimed for a deadly xbow/pike/huss timing. Completely overwhelming Marechal with this timing he managed to take game one. Game two was Germany (Kaiserklein) vs India (Marechal). Marechal pressured Kaiser with some early sepoys, but ended up throwing these away for basically nothing. After a series of very close engagements, Kaiser managed to finally come out on top and overwhelm Marechals army taking the second game too.

Last up were mongo10 and Mitoe. In game one, Mongo picked France against Mitoe’s Germany. Mongo tried to use LordRaphael’s musk semi FF style for this match up, but Mitoe countered that with a very quick fortress. Before mongo’s musks could do any damage, mitoe already had a sizable army of skirms and uhlans. Mongo followed Mitoe to age 3, and tried to surprise him with a very cuir heavy composition. It seemed Mitoe got caught off guard by this, being out on the map with no anti cav at all. Good micro and a 5 war wagon pop near the end of the fight helped him crush mongo’s army and take game one. In game two, Mongo resorted to his favorite China, while Mitoe picked France. Unlike Prince, Mitoe went for a hussar semi ff in this match up. When mongo popped his anti cav minutemen, mitoe bravely fought these losing only one hussar, and then continued to harass Mongo’s villagers. Mitoe seemed to have gotten ahead with his solidly executed build order, and pressed his army advantage to prevent mongo from getting the typical mass. After mitoe had won all fights, Mongo was forced to resign, making Mitoe our final semi finalist. Happy birthday to Mito after all.

He definitely has a good shot, he was one of my top favorites from the start. His games against ramex werent as easy as I expected, although that mightve been because ramex seemed more in shape than I thought he was.

The remaining players are close in skill. I've no idea who's gonna win actually, makes it interesting to watch.
