Suggestion for maps in EP
Re: Suggestion for maps in EP
Shallows terrain is basically water with small depth. So basically you can use water and then fill it with any land terrain at some negative height that is more than the water depth. It works the other way around as well, e.g. using bayou water and adding to it a negative enough terrain to make it navigable by ships.
That is, unless you mean shallow like in aoe2 where both ships and land units can pass over that.

I worked hard to find a breach in the game files to unlock the ability of having shallows in order to have it for EP (because game files would have to be modified, so the featured couldn't be used on RE). Sadly I haven't been able to find a solution, might be intersting to see if guys from the UHC could do something. The benefits would be really huge in terms of map design.
Right, I get it. Guess it's waiting for AoE3DE
Re: Suggestion for maps in EP
I believe impassable criteria for land units and ships just exclude each other. Only way to allow those type of shallows would be to modify unit properties so that there is a range of depth in common for ships and land units.
Re: Suggestion for maps in EP
From what I've understand the issue is not the depth. The issue is that there are 3 units type in the game : land, water and air. Land units type can only move on land area, water units type can only move on water area and air units type can move on everything. So I've found a way for instance to edit these units types, but what we want is the contrary. We want that some terrain types can be pathable by both water and land units, and it doesn't seem possible :/
Re: Suggestion for maps in EP
I think the problem is the depth rather than the terrain tag. Bayou water is actually water yet it allows land units to walk on that. However add any terrain type to bayou water with like -3 height and it will become full water, allowing ships to navigate on it and denying land units instead.
Water terrains are just different land textures layered. For example by reducing the water height with the above mentioned trick different colors of the same water terrain emerge.

Re: Suggestion for maps in EP
We did this right? Brilliant idea and I find it very helpful in the lobby to see the images.
Thanks for doing this!

Re: Suggestion for maps in EP
Yeah, we did; Bucket made the images for all non-RE maps. With the move to UIx on EP5, it is effectively also implemented for observer mode ESOC maps.
Re: Suggestion for maps in EP
Can we tweek the "unknown" map to EP standards and add Aizamk's UI to it. It had lot of potential to be used in some future events like grand tour or GUA sub tourney.

It's already been tweaked by @Rikikipuaqwer wrote:Can we tweek the "unknown" map to EP standards and add Aizamk's UI to it. It had lot of potential to be used in some future events like grand tour or GUA sub tourney.
However, I'm not sure adding UI to it is currently possible. Probably not, due to its dynamic nature.
