What is your FAVORITE ESOC UI 2.2 Map to play on / view games on?
As I begin preparations for another Studio Event, I thought I would do a quick survey and see what maps the community likes most!
Re: What is your FAVORITE ESOC UI 2.2 Map to play on / view games on?
Maybe allow people to select up to 3? And if indo wins I'm leaving forever.

I used to dislike Kamchatka, at least playing on it, but I kind of like it now. The chokes are somewhat annoying, especially because it is hard to see where they are due to the swamp, but the small treasures (no insane imbalanced tier 3 treasures), and the fact that your hunts do not last forever and punishes sitting in your base and bad scouting (to see enemy hunts and mines) makes it competitive and thus enjoyable. The TP line is great too: not too many, and even the one closest to your TC is not guaranteed to survive forever (as in Great Plains). Oh, and no water. Also, the map is visually stunning.
Pay more attention to detail.

Kamchatka i used to like and it fell out of favor for me. Manchuria Hudson and high plains are staples for me. Really all the maps are great though.

Indonesia is probs the best to watch games on, since it offers so much diverse play.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I really like Florada. It remains a bit unknow for some people until now but Imo it could be the next best map.
I also voted for Kamchatka because it's the most fair map (because it's probably the one in which the most important time of work was spent) and for Indonesia because I like water play and this map is really great for that.

A.) The thread you linked me to is outdated and does not represent the current opinion, nor does it represent all the ESOC Maps to date. (It's from August of 2015)
B.) The thread you linked me to is also off topic, so perhaps you'd like to move your own thread to the proper subforum as well.
Thanks, @pecelot

Re: What is your FAVORITE ESOC UI 2.2 Map to play on / view games on?
One thing about Kamchatka I've been meaning to ask.3 goat hunts are pretty difficult to herd. What I'm trying to say is that herding a 3 animal hunts doesn't provide enough value in terms of a meaningful quantity of food under the TC.Also these are 2 shot animals so herdability is low.Whereas on the other hand if they were like 5 animal herds, one herd could've sufficed easily for age 1 and early age 2.The other herds could've been used solely for fortressing or age 2 timings.Any chance to see bigger goat herds or a merger of the two herds for a 6 animal herd in future?

That's a unique feature of this map, time to learn how to herd effectively!

Well both hunts can be herded without a doubt but it's just the amount of vill seconds spent that is the issue which is double the amount spent on other maps unless ofc I decide to go for deers in age 1.On most other maps herding one hunt with a delayed herding effort for the second hunt is sufficient for age 1.It can be a problem vs rush civs if the second goat herd spawns some distance away causing an age up delay. The deer hunts are always an option but their true value lies as a food reserve for ffing or age 2 timing I feel.In tourney games I keep seeing players hunting deer in age 1.No offense to the map makers it's a still an excellent map. It's just that tiny bit of inefficiency(because of split hunts) in a game like aoe3 where every second counts and gets added up in the long run that forces me to think about it.As I see it it is an imperfection rather than a flaw. The post was more of wishful thinking than a complain.
Re: What is your FAVORITE ESOC UI 2.2 Map to play on / view games on?
You cannot simply remove the legendary Garja goats, they define the very essence of the map at this point.
Re: What is your FAVORITE ESOC UI 2.2 Map to play on / view games on?
Aren't both players affected equally by that though? Thus, rendering it fair.
Re: What is your FAVORITE ESOC UI 2.2 Map to play on / view games on?
As he mentioned it llbe anindirect advantage to rush civs

I didn't say removal. If its one hunt of 6 Garja goats it will be much more useful I feel. Garja goats will get you past age 1 every time easy np. Garja goats in colorado are my favorite hunts in AOE3.

There's absolutely no argument about fairness of the map from my side. It's just that the the feature is underused as I see it, directly and indirectly. And as I mentioned before, it's an imperfection rather than a flaw.It won't break your game since the deers are always there. But it's still underutilization of resources however minuscule it may be.Perfection is the agenda here.
Well, if the second goat hunt spawns a bit too far from TC and therefore the player goes directly for deers in age 1 after the 1st 3 goats, it will still be okay. But that will also mean 1200 food that hasn't been utilized which is a shame in a game where perfection is rewarded in terms of macro or micro.saksham wrote:As he mentioned it llbe anindirect advantage to rush civs

Indonesia is one of the most one-dimensional maps you can get, it's actually the opposite of diverse play. But it's a very non standard map, if that's what you mean.

There's actually some really good treasures on kamchatka, like 75f, 80f, 80g, and most importantly a 90w spawning almost every game. But yeah it's still competitive because they always spawn around the middle river so it actually rewards map knowledge and age 1 treasuring/fighting skills, and not just luck because a big treas spawns next to your base.
And tbh you have a lot of food in base on kamchatka, it's just that you need to herd really actively, because they always seem to be running away from your base. But you do have like 3 decent hunts herdable under your tc, if you don't get mapscrewed at least. You also have 2 goldmines in base. With the chokes you mentioned, it really makes it a quite defensive map, unlike what you seem to think. The winter version is a bit less defensive though, since there's no rivers.
Otherwise yeah I agree, Kamchatka is a great map, my only real problem with it is the 2x3 garja goats spawn (like the deers on saguenay), they run away in a random direction when you shoot at them, and always walk away from your tc. It's super annoying and random.
