Cheadar's Tip of the Week 1: Camels are bad in treaty.

Cheadar's Tip of the Week 1: Camels are bad in treaty.

The beginning of Cheadar's Tip of the Week! Please enjoy the tips and comment with your thoughts.

Camels are better than elephants in supremacy. When the game goes to post imperial in Treaty, camels become very weak. Here's three reasons why:

  1. Camels have less cards than elephants - This one is self explanatory, less upgrade cards means less late game strength
  2. Camels are low hp - high attack cavalry - In treaty cavalry is usually acting in a tanky role. Hand cav in particular (sowar) are very vulnerable when big armies are on the field.
  3. Camels counter specific units - Sowar have special multipliers that make them strong vs skirmisher type units but weak against everything else. The same story for zams with hand cav. In large fights with mixed armies and lag from treaty it is very difficult to make sure each camel you make it hitting the right units which makes them even weaker!

Heres some benefits of skipping out on those camels!

  1. Save 2 card slots in age 2 by skipping the camel cards
  2. Save resources from the camel upgrades
  3. Burn up resources slower by using tankier units like Mahouts and Howdah

Remember, these are general rules aimed at new players to help them avoid common pitfalls! Please do discuss any exceptions to the general rule in this thread. Lets have a good discussion guys!

Yea another thing was that camels actually still have a very long train time! It's been brought up in the previous thread that yes the camels are cheaper, however you will actually lose more money in the end as you you can't get out the zams fast enough to defend your cavalry vulnerable units.

Elephants take a long time to train but at least you get a decent unit at the end of it. I've heard zamburaks get compared to Dutch ruyters but the thing is 1.) ruyters train way faster and 2.) Dutch are a terrible (treaty) civ so you shouldn't want to be like them (even if some basement players have trouble countering Ruyters + horse cannons).

the fact that Dutch has 150 military pop makes them shit civ

Well you can get a max of 54 settlers. But yes I hope that in a future patch or something they could be expanded to get maybe 75 settler max plus the banks to make them slightly more competitive in treaty.

Dutch only needs to get more settlers, while their banks are made less costly and less worthy,

Camels were of questionable use before they were made weaker through the official patches. The high damage output used to compensate for their 12 range and low hitpoints.

The speed of the zams alone is my favourite thing about using at least the zams.
