This thread goes in the same direction as Queen's female online discrimination thread, but more general and illustrating the whole thing perfectly.
You wont change the attitude of anonymous people on the internet and too harsh comments will definitely get banned by mods at every single aoe3 twitch chat i've ever been.
Plus, and as Gibson already pointed out correctly: The more you "whine" about this behaviour the more likely it is to occur again and particular to you then because you'll be seen as an attractive target who will even reply in all honesty.

There are always shitty comments in every twitch stream, very unfortunate, i guess it has to do with how society evolves (and that its just easier to talk in anonymous twitch chats). Too bad. Either way, many still enjoy it, and its mostly about you enjoying it. There are always sad kids who have nothing better to do than only talk bs. Also, pro or not, keep in mind that its always much easier to talk from the sideslines, rather than playing and performing yourself. Furthermore, every pro was once a noob too.

If you think that chat was negative, you've never been in one with the likes of BPDS or Breeze, where comments will be racist, sexist or in other ways discriminating and inflammatory and aimed against you as a person. Last night's chat was perhaps harsh in the way people can be harsh when they criticise the players of a basketball/tennis/football game when they watch tv, but it was not generally disrespecting any of the players as a person, and as far as I've seen, also not really as a player. I've not seen any, but perhaps there were, comments about how you guys were bad, or overrated or what not. People were simply talking about the actions and decisions happening in the game, and mostly this was indeed about the mistakes you guys made. But it wasn't just to laugh about these mistakes or to gloat about them, most of the time alternative suggestions were offered as well, and at times people didn't agree and these differences of opinions were discussed.

And i must say I don't really find your OP very mature, if you believe people shouldnt be so judgmental and vent their frustrations online, then your post isn't really a very good example of that behaviour.

Posts such as these are really quite silly. Jumping into a burning house to save someone while risking your life is brave. Streaming a game online isn't brave. And perhaps it's not the alledged insecurity of people that were commenting on their game, but rather the insecurity of Sergyou, which is the problem here. His entire post was very negative, but he complains about negativity of others. It's a bit strange.

Saying that all woman suck at gaming or that all people of a certain religion must die or saying that they will rape your family, that's toxic and disrespectful behaviour. Saying "OMG WHY DOESNT HE MAKE ANY FUCKING HUSSARS?!!" or "WHY DOES HE WALK HIS YUMI INTO CAVALRY" is not disrespectful.

Just realize that the people responding negatively are a very small group overall - most of us (who don;t talk in chat period) appreciate what you do very much.

That's 6 randomly selected pieces of yesterday's chat. Now it's entirely possible that by some weird stroke of fate I have somehow managed to entirely miss all those highly toxic comments that were made in the chat, but it seems to me that if the chat was, as sergyou claims, entirely toxic and offensive in nature, I should have caught atleast a few of those. Now, the most offensive comments I have seen are a few sarcastic comments by Sergyou's treaty rivals and, depending on how you look at it, me asking wether they are reading the stream chat while playing.

Just don't read the twitch chats, if you're not used to getting flamed hard. I honestly don't know if you really got trashtalked or not because I didn't read that chat, but generally speaking twitch chats are toxic yeah.
You find those guys, who have no clue about the game, but still try to teach everyone, and call the players bad. Those other guys, who you never ever heard of, but apparently they know you very well and decided that you are a dickhead (even though they never talked to you) and flame/insult you. And also those guys who never do anything for the community, but always complain about the events. And I don't even mention the trolls.
But I'd say that a majority of viewers are fine. The problem is just that those guys who bring negativity always talk louder than the others, and you also notice them more. Either way, just try to ignore the chat and to move on. Or if you're like me and you like flame wars, you can also go in the chat and answer those guys

I wasn't there so I won't speak about what was or wasn't the case, but I know how streams can be and how people ridicule players for no reason. streams are the only place where you see 1st lt/captains flaming colonels in chat about "what they should be doing" and how "bad" they are.

You haven't seen Twitch chats for more popular games like LoL. Go read the chat from Imaqtpie's stream if you want to see how toxic chats can be. It's even worse for streamers who are not high-level players, especially females. It's just part and parcel of exposing your content on the internet.

My first attempt at casting a game on ESOCtv wasn't successful either. I had the game on the lowest graphics and had my own custom UI (for playing), but no casting UI. So people got angry, they started asking: where's the UI? why can't we see shipments? etc. I didn't have any previous casting experience so it was kinda awkward, half of the time I was thinking "wtf should I say next?". So eventually MusketJr commented most of the game and I just made a few remarks here and there. Probably if I had the UI for casting installed, they wouldn't have gotten so butthurt about it. What is more, having the game run on the lowest graphics surely didn't make it more appealing for viewers (even though I did that to make sure there won't be any lag for players).

But then, after I let someone else stream, I watched how my part of the stream looked like and it was crap. I was ESOC admin back then, I was also managing the Twitch channel so I simply didn't save that piece because it was too bad. Nobody would have re-watched that.

Going back to your case, I think people just got used to watching mostly high-level content. They know how the gameplay looks like at lower levels, because that's where most of them play the game (if they do). So they get easily bored watching gameplay that is not of high-level quality because there's nothing exciting for them to watch. Usually higher level gameplay is less predictable and more consistent, which is more captivating for viewers, since they don't see much of that as lower-level players.

Yeah but you should also think about the majority of people who enjoy the content, even though they don't always write it in the chat. If out of 100 viewers, you have 5 of them flaming in the chat, I agree it's enough to create a very toxic atmosphere. But it doesn't mean that the other 95 should have no content because of the 5 retards.
Also, I personally ofc get flamed a lot because I rage hard, but I need to say I also get a ton of pms from viewers/players bringing me some positive feedback. So again, everything is not so dark, and the global feeling you get from the twitch chat is really not representative of the whole community.
It's also maybe down to the mods to warn the toxic users a bit more than what is done atm.

dont get tilted by twitch chat. It's notorious in almost any game. People can be nasty when they have anonymity. In pretty much every aoe stream there's always some kind of discussion going on for what went wrong and why it's wrong. Take it on board if you want to, or don't. It's what happens when playing for an audience.

When I compete in Judo there's usually around 100 - 200 people around, competitors, supporters, coaches etc. Under pressure peoples comments can get to me and sometimes when I'm in the heat of the fight I miss opportunities. So after I lose or win a fight, sometimes I can hear other competitors saying the match was pretty trash, I couldn't finish them off fast enough, or I should have done this or that and I wouldn't have lost, or that I suck. I just ignore it because being a spectator is similar to hindsight and you'll always see more mistakes when you're not so focused on minor details. Just shrug it off and move on.

I always look back twitch chat after i won or played decently. Cant really recall any big losses I guess. People are usually pretty kind I think. Some discussion on what strats you should be doing or stuff youre obviously messing up but its usually fine.
