Thinking about starting an ESOC Book Club
Basically we would select a book each 2 weeks or maybe month (may be done by vote or just selected by me) and then give everybody a chance to read it. Then, we would make a thread in this section and discuss our thoughts on the book. This idea could also be applied (more easily) to movies as well so if you like that idea you can post here as well.
Who would be interested in this idea?

Hell yeah! Who picks the books though? I don't want it to turn into a twilight circlejerk.

We'll probably have a vote but the selection you can vote from will be picked by the leadership of the Book Club

I'd vote yes but I'm already reading too many books and have more on my list and it's not a good idea to pick up another book :( (esp some lengthy Russian novel or the sort) lol

Would be neat to do a sort of variety of literature? like a mix of a few poems, a short story or two, and a short novel? I just like the idea of diversity over a single book but either way I'm very down. This sounds quite nice :)

ik it's an obvious joke but it is disheartening when I see geographic prejudice stated with no sense of sarcasm. I think an actual, non-negligible amount of Europeans possess a negative point of view towards Americans. Too many people think I'm Canadian and each time my true hailing is revealed I can't help but feel some of those people lose some sort of perverted respect for me. It's bizarre, honestly, though perhaps it's all in my head.
The oddest thing is I wish I was Canadian though, too. I mean, I would feel more comfortable telling foreigners that. The two countries are very different; maybe this is my nationalism rearing its head, but I like America.

Yes it's in your head. And nationalism is silly. And there was a clear dose of sarcasm, we all know 50% is not accurate, it's much higher.

Fair enough; I'm not denying it isn't silly; I have my many faults; this is one of them. I'm possibly letting Mimsy speak for too many people.

I feel like something is telling you that you're not proud to be american. Who can blame you, the country elected trump..

Great idea! We could do some graphic novels as well, such as Preacher. Shorter to read and easier for non-readers to get their feet wet.

There seems to be a growing prejudice toward Americans, unfortunately. I know that many feel they can justify it since America elected Trump, but I wonder how many other countries would've elected a Trump themselves as long as he appealed to what they believe to be within their best interest.

Even the most avid of readers are intimidated by that! Are you trying to discourage reading?! Do you hate words?
@deleted_user Have you read Saga? Also quite good.
Anyone interested in a graphic novel list? Pretty sure umeu and I could come up with some great choices.
