Ye there are all sorts of different kinds of things we could read. We'll probably start with something shorter to make it easier for people to get involved

Canada is for the most part just an extension of the north-eastern states/west coast of usa.
Top quality poster.

ik it's an obvious joke but it is disheartening when I see geographic prejudice stated with no sense of sarcasm. I think an actual, non-negligible amount of Europeans possess a negative point of view towards Americans. Too many people think I'm Canadian and each time my true hailing is revealed I can't help but feel some of those people lose some sort of perverted respect for me. It's bizarre, honestly, though perhaps it's all in my head.
The oddest thing is I wish I was Canadian though, too. I mean, I would feel more comfortable telling foreigners that. The two countries are very different; maybe this is my nationalism rearing its head, but I like America.
There seems to be a growing prejudice toward Americans, unfortunately. I know that many feel they can justify it since America elected Trump, but I wonder how many other countries would've elected a Trump themselves as long as he appealed to what they believe to be within their best interest.
We have our own trump. 13% of the votes right now so we can say we wouldnt have elected trump.

I'd really prefer movies, to be honest. Nobody will read books. A movie is two hours at most.

Different media have different virtues. There are books that I've benefited a lot from. The same can be said of television shows, movies, games, music, and even weeaboo garbage.
But we're making a book club! If you want to talk about movies, make a movie club!

We may also do a movie club but I want to get myself to read more which is what prompted the idea.

My suggestion for the first book is the following book contemplating the meaning of life and what mechanisms and rules we need to explain our everyday experiences:

I would vote for my Biochemistry textbook, by Garret and Grisham.

Yes and we should read William Hazlitt's lectures on English poets [and] The Spirit of The Age while we're at it too.
