Official Basement Movie Club
So as you may remember duck and I stated our intention to lead a Basement-ESOC Book Club a few weeks ago. We still intend on doing that, however due to some time constraints I've decided to start up a movie club for now as it will be much easier for people to participate, and I would like to have a robust discussion for this.
The first movie will be The Usual Suspects. From Wikipedia:
"The Usual Suspects is a 1995 American neo-noir mystery film directed by Bryan Singer and written by Christopher McQuarrie. It stars Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Benicio del Toro, Kevin Pollak, Chazz Palminteri, Pete Postlethwaite, and Kevin Spacey.
The film follows the interrogation of Roger "Verbal" Kint, a small-time con man who is one of only two survivors of a massacre and fire on a ship docked at the Port of Los Angeles. He tells an interrogator a convoluted story about events that led him and his partners in crime to the boat, and about a mysterious mob boss known as Keyser Söze who commissioned their work. Using flashback and narration, Kint's story becomes increasingly complex."
I urge you to not look up any information about the movie prior to watching it, and do not post your thoughts on it in this thread. There will be a thread created next week (4/19 or 4/20) so you have until then to watch the movie. I believe it is on Netflix but only for certain countries (not including the US).
You can use this thread to post other movie suggestions; we will likely have a poll for the next movie included with the discussion thread for The Usual Suspects.

Re: Official Basement Movie Club
I like this idea more than the book club cause books are damn time consuming.
Suggestion: Choose more obscure movies. Probably most people here have already seen The Usual Suspects (which, as a Spacey fan, I love that movie).

I love old boy.
There's also The Village, eventhough it's a lot more famous and controversial.

Can confirm that The Usual Suspects is a great movie.
Watch Moon next, or Gattaca. Don't cheat yourselves by reading up on either of these movies. A quick glance to tell you what they're generally about is okay, I guess, but really, you should go into them both with no knowledge. Genre is science fiction.

Absolutely great watch! The whole scary thing designed for a plausible purpose, protect their isolated life from real/outer circle life...
That blind girl gets me emotional several times through the movie lol
I'm curious, do you guys think it's realistic such groups exist in real life?
Theres going to be a dam, the great dam and we'll let the beavers pay for it - Edeholland 2016
Anyway, nuancing isn't your forte, so I'll agree with you like I would with a 8 year old: violence is bad, don't do hard drugs and stay in school Benj98

Yeah that girl is incredible in that movie. She sucks in the others though.
I think that it is totally realistic yeah.
Some guys want to flee capitalism and have some weird religions.

Then I shall repeat my sentiment that I think princess mononoke would be a great movie to watch!
