AoE2 HD expansions

Post by sdsanft »

Hi, I recently got the complete collection of aoe2 hd on steam and was wondering if someone is willing to just summarize each of the new civs or can link me to a place where this has already been done. Also does anyone know what the best aoe2 hd forum is and what the best way for a beginner like me to get started is?

I have AoE II but I don't play it much, I can only tell you that ZeroEmpires and SpiritOfTheLaw seem to be the Interjection and Zutazuta of AoE II
Maybe @lordraphael could give you tips :flowers:

aoczone.net is the main AoE2 page, you can also check out Steam forums and the official ones. r/aoe2 is very active as well.

Look up 'spirit of the law' on youtube. He is the PR 25 equivalent for aoe 3 in age 2 hd. Zero Empires also has some good content for this game.

Meh, is 1800 Steam Elo = 1400 Voobly Elo really PR25? :hmm:

PR25 sounds fair for 1400 actually, maybe he's closer to PR20.

Hm, hard to say, I'd rate it lower, but ofc both games are quite different since getting up in ranking in AoC I think requires just better execution as build orders are usually the same, whereas you actually have to learn how to play specific civs in AoE3 :hmm:

yeah really what separates the pros on voobly from everyone else is the ability to click fast and make decisions under pressure. The bare theory behind build orders and strategies is pretty easy to learn.

AoC is MUCH more difficult than aoe3. Aoe3 isn't really a competitive game compared to aoc or sc:bw.
Any 1800 voobly guy is heaps better than a PR25 in aoe3. I can be inactive for years and play some games for a week and I can easily hold with the Pr25 here, and I suck tbh. Also don't forget that the current PR 25 guys are mostly 30+ from before but due to inactivity people keep decaying to 1st Lieut. Aoe2 on voobly and aoe2 HD have a much higher playerbase than aoe3. The amount of smurfs in aoe2 is also way higher, those keep you down as well.

how do you know smurfing is more common in AoC?
no one said anything about 1800 Voobly Elo
also in terms of variety AoE3>AoC, so kinda naturally in terms of competitiveness AoC>AoE3

You don't need to buy a new CD key to smurf in AoC. And good players have incentives to smurf since it becomes hard to find a game once you're 1800+

Some time ago when I checked lobbies there were a lot of rooms for 1800+-Elo-rating players, the game is much more popular and has a larger number of pros. In AoC it's rather a possibility than a necessity, as in AoE3 sometimes.
