Is AOE4 a reality???

Post by Omkar_Satapathy »

Is it true that the Microsoft is making some new AOE? I read some rumours in AOE2 Steam community, reddit and some other AOE forums. They say we may get some news this year. Is it really true, I am very excited.     :uglylol:

There are rumors almost every year. It's highly unlikely to be true.

Not likely. Developing a game like AoE5 would require some years of work before any news can be released.
And seeing they are getting out expansions for AoE2 and AoM, its clear they are not thinking about a sequel, for now.

very doubtful a new AOE would come out anytime soon. Also I'm so tired of these AOE4 topics, AOE4 was released like 3 years ago... you are late to the party. It was called Age of Empires Online. If you are looking for a new age of empires game at least have the correct title and ask if age of empires 5 is coming out.

Too sad, what are other historically realistic RTS games like Age of Empires and Rise of Nations? I love such games.

To be honest, I don't like online games. They aren't so handy to be played.

Expansions for AoE2 and AoM are released by forgotten empires team not by Microsoft. maybe ms games can develop a new game

At least if the developers could reveil some development tools they used for Age of Empires III, we modders are enough to transform it into a new game.

HURRRRRRRRRAAAAYY, the new monthly aoe4 hype thread.

yeah ofc its true, since BILL GATES took care of it personally, they are currently producing a new version of a beloved RTS series and will show it at E3 2016. billy boy ignoring the AOE4 question in the latest AMA in reddit is just further proof, because he totally doesnt wanna spoil the surprise where whole microsoft started producing a new aoe instead of the next windows, because thats what ppl rlly need.

Microsoft hired Forgotton empires team, after they released their expansion unofficially for AOE2(old version). Later on they released it with modifications and quality control (overviewed by MS) for Aoe2HD version officially (for a price).
MS also hired the same team later to release an expansion for AOM(which was bad) and another for AOE2HD.

Edit-- also if you would like to help develop an AOE2 like game. and make it everything which it was supposed to be. Check out 0AD(open source medieval 3d rts).

not going to play a game that has worse graphics than aoe 3 lol. Besides ive heard that they have been in the alpha or beta for like 7 years now and the game still hasnt been finished yet. So chances are high it never will be.

I'm not suggesting anyone to play it. Omkar expressed a desire to develop a new game like aoe3 given the tools. So I thought he might like it.

I see you have never played it. Its development has sped up recently, and new versions come out faster. From what I've seen since I started following an year or so ago.
Also it is playable already. Don't worry about the alpha tag. They have multiplayer supported. And its quite fun. though balance is a little off. I havnt tried the latest alpha. Graphics are not that bad.

yes it seems like a decent game but so is aoe. I just dont see how this game would be better than aoe 3.

0AD can only hope to be better than aoe2.

Aoe3 is different and fast paced. with Home city cards and no resource dropsite. It is the best rts imo at the moment.

It's quite a nice game and is one of the biggest open-source freeware still operating. But as lordraphel said it doesn't have good graphics like aoe3. Environment is amazing, no words for it. Even Buildings are nice. But units make it look terrible. Also it always lags during end games( Even on my i5 4gb ram Vaio laptop). Almost non playable. It looks more like an eyecandy game than strategy. It also lags Anti Alias but that would only make it lag more.
I am an experienced modder of Age of Empires III, Rise of Nations and Battle for Wesnoth (my childhood game haha). I may need to learn a lot to start modding 0ad. Also I never made new model. I just retextured, add new animations, attachments and projectiles to existing models to make new units and buildings. I am the best at programming. While 0ad mainly needs model making skills only. I am afraid I may not be able to mod it.

Edit- By saying development tools, I meant every game has some modding no nos like in Rise of Nations we cannot add more nations and units, we just need to adjust units in order to add more. Similarly Aoe3 has limitations like we cannot add custom made animations, we just need to use existing animations, even if we add some new skins they may not appear in a game sometimes, we cannot extend deck limit, etc. I want all such limitations should be removed, modders should be allowed to make nice contents with a game without any problems.
It seems to me developers do this in order to avoid competition with talented group of modders.

I think the developers didnt think about modding in the first place. I guess that the modding community was very small during the time all of these old rts were developed. Nowadays most new games/developers give a lot of opportunities for modders.

Yes it could be, but it's never wrong to disclose the tools used to make a game. 0ad has disclosed every thing, thus it's continuously developing.

I've tried it. The graphics are really nice actually.

What it's lacking is a solid drive for game design (though it is solid enough last time I played) and game performance. Multiplayer games are laggy pretty much. Otherwise game itself is really nice, love it. Just unfinished.

Seeing this topic still exists I'll let you guys on in a video game industry secret. This has been true for many many many years with very few exceptions.

It's not about the content it is about the quick cash grab with new content just to keep you barely interested. This allows them to keep grabbing your money.
