twitch/ageofempires update

Post by giveuanxiety »

Hello guys so earlier today the Microsoft community managers streamed on the official channel @ twitch/ageofempires. This was the first time they used their channel in probably over 2 years. They also now set up a new schedule to stream every Friday 10-11 PST. Watch the vod @ https://www.twitch.tv/videos/142277757
start the vod at around 30 minutes, (first 30mins of stream was just getting things set up).

Kiefer was the person playing aoe2 in the stream. He was the original streamer and owner of the twitch/ageofempires channel when it was first created some years back for Age of Empires Online. He was an amazing balance tester and community manager for AOEO. He was an employee that actually had passion for the game and the community and did far more than any other employee would have done. Having him back using the official stream is good news for all aoe communities and hopefully he will get back to being a regular streamer on there again. As of now they plan on using the stream for aoe2 but will later start playing other aoe games. They were also streaming on a site called https://beam.pro/ at the same time the stream was live on twitch. This is probably worth looking into for our media team as we could maybe stream on both platforms for the rest of the tournament. We should all show them our support by watching and chatting in the stream when they are live! If they see a large audience then they will dedicate more time to streaming, which could bring life back to that channel and could in turn help boost the aoe3 community a lot. Perhaps esoc can put their channel on our twitch streams list. (When their streaming under aoe2 it wouldn't appear there, but we shouldnt take this opportunity lightly.) Supporting them can lead to potential great things for the aoe3 community.

Streaming on beam.pro is a bad idea but the rest is good.

This. Beam sucks lol. You might add 3 viewers max. The biggest streamers on beam get like 250 or 300 viewers.

could be worth looking into, since the site seems new maybe we could even get esoc on the front page as one of the featured streams, and if their trying to compete with twitch, who knows maybe the site will be big in the future.

How does streaming to two services work logistically speaking with an individual's computer? Is it more taxing on the CPU and upload bandwidth? Is this something we can reliably expect to happen with our two dozen or so streamers? If you want to broadcast to different streaming platforms in an effort to reach new viewers why not broadcast to the larger services like Youtube?

I just think there's just a certain investment:return ratio that isn't really worth it.

Kieffer is now a beam community manager, hence his sudden reappearance. Seems to be basically returning to aoe streams while simultaneously promoting beam. Not complaining though, he was basically the only guy who actually interacted with the aoe community.

Did you play yesterday? :hehe:

Other than that, I'm totally for cooperating with MS on Twitch, we should definitely feature on their official channel during the finals!

Instead of streaming on beam you could rather stream to youtube. Would probably result in more viewers.

Looks like we could do multi-streaming with this service, called Restream.io:

https://support.restream.io/

It seems like they're basically completely free and won't degrade your quality. Adds ~2 sec latency, but could be worth it to allow us to Stream to Twitch, Youtube, and Beam.

I am a little uncomfortable with the answer in their FAQ to "How does Resream make money?"
Short Answer: Through our premium features!

The rest is classified!

Emphasis mine.

What about having somebody else just streaming the ESOCTV stream. Shouldn't lose much quality if any, right?

Looks good, the pricing can be found here: https://restream.io/pricing
A couple random streamers sharing thoughts on the service, generally positive: https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comment ... _tried_it/
Latency seems pretty irrelevant, since we want latency for all tournament streams anyway.

It looks to me like for what we want to do free tier is enough.
