Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
Hello ESOC!
If you don't know about this, There are things that I'll have to say. Gameranger, is the only well known alternative platform for most of the ESO players. Voobly is just like Gameranger. To be honest, Voobly is better than GR. Hence, I recommend this stuff to all players in ESO.
All of the FAQ's about Voobly are written below:
1) What is Voobly?
It is an alternative platform to play aoe 3 multiplayer.
2) How do I play there?
There are two ways to do that.
i) Go to http://www.voobly.com, create a *free* voobly account. Download the voobly client. Login into the client using your account. A game browser will pop up with a list of games, Join to the 'AoE III: The Asian Dynasties' lobby (just click it). Join a room or host for yourself.
ii) If you don't want to download the client, Just create the account at http://www.voobly.com and you can join the lobby by clicking 'AoE III: The Asian Dynasties' on the website.
3) How come this is better than GR?
i) No 'Failed to join' issues.
ii) Lesser ads.
iii) Easy way to communicate with simple message box.
iv) The 'Nudge' tech is only available in voobly. This can be seen in the message box. You can alert people who are not in attention towards your messages.
4) Does the elo system is followed in voobly just like ESO?
Yes, you can play rated or unrated.
5) Is there much players in voobly?
To be honest, Voobly has lesser players than ESO and GR. The average of availability of players in voobly (especially in the AoE 3 TAD lobby) is ~65.
6)Is there any possibility of playing the EP or the Treaty Patch on Voobly?
Yes, It is now possible. You'll have to download the Patch Mod, and enable the mod if you want to play on EP/Treaty Patch. The Patch mod links are available here:
For ESOC Patch: http://www.voobly.com/gamemods/mod/809/ESOC-Patch
For Treaty Patch: http://www.voobly.com/gamemods/mod/808/Treaty-Patch
Follow the instructions there. If you have any problems, PM _NiceKING_ or post your issue in this thread.
You can try playing on voobly, if you're bored with ESO and GR or when ESO is down. There are competitive players available in Voobly too. And you can practice there.
Imo, it is good to play there some time.
You can try joining our ESOC Team available at Voobly. Sincere Thanks to @_NiceKING_ , He created the clan. He is a Voobly Moderator. This is our team website: http://eso-community.voobly.com, you can join by a request application.
Other Issues:
1) Inside a game room, you can see some players as Fast Proxy, which isn't a problem at all. Slow Proxy is the problem.
2) Sometimes, it takes a longer time to send/receive messages due to slow Internet connection.
3) Sometimes, Voobly will disconnect you from the game/lobby automatically. (This doesn't happen often)
I hope some of you will try it! Good Luck and have fun!!

Good to know, may give it a try some day. A good alternative to GR.

Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
I have played on Voobly with a friend who has FTJ, and it is far better than the archaic GR. Just a shame the number of player is lower. im Pretty sure you can record/stream games too if im not mistaken.
Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
Yes, certainly. There are some tools in voobly which makes your streaming work a lot more simple and easier.

Last time I played there (ESO was down), I played a 2v2 with a friend, @EAGLEMUT was in the other team, we rushed the other guy and made him resign, but EAGLEMUT alone rekt us
Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
He's a captain, in the end
Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
I'm pretty sure that if it comes the day that ESO dies, then everybody gonna migrate to Voobly

Maybe he means that the people on Voobly has more elo than on ESO but they're worse than us

gr sucks for people that are new to it and dont know the players. When you are playing randoms on gr team or x1, chances are you won't be enjoying the game. I dont like voobly that much because its a bit more complex and it updates every time I open it.

Haha, that was so long ago, I'm surprised that you remember! It must've been around that time when Ryz0n left MS, ESO was unstable for months to the point of being down most of the time and we were unsure if there's even anyone looking into a fix. Good old times.
I think this was possibly the only game I have actually played on voobly, but I cannot verify since the records are apparently gone.
Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
I played on voobly a few times, it certainly is better than gameranger. Some gameranger ads even tried to install adware/malware on my pc!

should be 456, then people would recognize what a true pro looks like

Not so, They have a rating system, but that's only for name sake. They don't exactly follow the elo rating system.

For Example: They gave 19 points for me in 1v1 elo, when a guy lost connection and dropped at 2 mins after the game started. This is very bad and unfair. It is like randomly giving off points according to your win/loss. I just recommend playing unrated unless the game is balanced. Voobly rating system is fake.

Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
Voobly uses the same ELO formula. You can use Voobly ELO Calculator.
If you lost points unfairly, just post a complaint and ask for match reset here: http://www.voobly.com/forum/view/57511

Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
It doesn't only happen to me, it happens to most of them in the lobby. And posting a complaint and asking for a match reset, just involves a lot of work.

Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
Well, at least it's fixable, unlike on ESO
Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
Well, this problem doesn't occur normally on ESO. Sometimes you win 19 points, sometimes you lose 30 points, sometimes you win 8 points and sometimes you only lose 4 points. This is what happens in voobly, for most of them.

Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
From what I remember from AoC, it's just normal.

Re: Voobly - An alternate platform for aoe 3.
Ratings on voobly shouldn't be weird, at least they are not on AoC. You can win or lose very different amounts of points depending on how many players you played with, the elo difference and so on. Keep in mind that in your first 10 or so games you will win/lose 2 times the amount of elo in order for you to reach your true elo more quickly. Your opponent will still get normal amounts even if you lost 2x.

but thats also happens in eso elo, its just because you are playing against people with a wide range of elo ratings, due to the formula that you posted the delta in elo is variable...
and about your exemple where someone drops at 2 mim, thats exactly how it should work, what if everyone that has a bad start, lose treasures, miss tp pass(rip kickass) and etc just leave the game unpunished? its better to count those games as rated to avoid elo manipulation.
from everything you said I only see a solid elo system, but with too few players (with makes people have weird numbers, but in an event of eso shutdown with the esoc suporting voobly, it would be much better then the random shitfest that is gr.)
