Giving up - Better too late than too early...

  • Quote

Post by Mameluke »

I learned something really important today: It's always better to give up too late than too early.

Sounds trivial yes, but I think most of people around my ELO (Pr ~20) get depressed or so if their TC falls and/or it seems like the game is lost already and give up even though it was still winnable.

Exactly that was the game I experienced today. I lost my TC, the only thing I had were villagers and a house. It seemed to be a safe loss. I just wanted to click on resign and then I thought "forget it I will give it a try" and then somehow I won the game. Dont forget your opponent makes mistakes too (unless its @Aizamk jk). Better give up too late than too early!

Thanks for the games @Pikilic :flowers:

Just so long as you aren't the guy with stealth spies in the corners on the map.

I think the cost of researching spies (capitol tech) is virtually zero at that point. Shouldn't be a problem.

Resigning when your TC falls is too early? I resign if I don't win a fight cost effectively. It's better to give yourself the least amount of chances to embarrass yourself as possible - my mantra.

don't forget, resign if you see your opponent Going heavy water, resign vs an op civ in qs, resign if the game seems even and your opponent is randomly an age ahead of you, resign if you loose a lot of vils to a raid, and resign if you're too far ahead so you can't throw.

I lost countless games back in the old days - before being a prestigeous lieutenant - because my opponent scattered his villagers across the map and rebuilt his base on the other side of Yukon.

I resign every time i don't get the chance to pick up an El Pollo Guapo treasure, it's just better to move on and hope for a better luck next time :(

Haha ilovesquats is right, I was sieging his TC and for some reason I sent pikes to catch his vills and maces stayed sieging the TC :kinggreen: very poorly played by me and mastered comeback from him, when I was still ahead I failed my micro in a terrible way :P

Anyway, I'm really surprised by the number of games I've lost when I was far ahead and won when I was far behind. I remember the great Garja saying: "People don't know how to win won games" and it's true that people throw games more often than you would think
Consider not the one who speaks the truth, but the truth that is said

:hmm: AoE logic :hmm:
