How to get better

Post by HUMMAN »

I am a pr 24, i played only portugal. Now even i try harder, i feel like i need some point of view different. I said to myself i will switch civ when i am captain, dont know if it is a mistake. But what are pros suggestions to be a better player more effeciently? Because i see people on my level played thousands of games but still at the same level, i dont want to perform same i want to discover and transform to different playstyles.

Focus on your mistakes. Watch replays and improve that what needs to be improved. Learn from other players.

I'm still bad because I can't be bothered to git gud but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

RE port kind of weak.

Hotkey as much as you effectively can.

Record games and analyze each to see what you and your opponent could have done better.

Watch recorded games of top players too to see what they do and how they do it. How is this different from what you do in similar maps and match ups? How is your opponent playing differently from their opponent?

Why is meta meta? How can you apply or adapt the meta to be successful at your skill range?

Become acquainted with the theory of timings and become familiar with the general time frame most civs are on.

Play consistently. The more games the better most likely. Play with someone slightly above your level.

recorded-games.php

^ All recorded games on ESOC iirc including tournament recs with an intuitive sorting feature that can sort by PR, civs, playername, map, patch, and/or all of the above.

If you lose your BO was wrong. Thats where the mistakes are.

What a gross oversimplification. Macro? Micro? Army positioning? In-game adaptation and decision making? All the small things which can snowball into a sizeable advantage?

Jerom is not gonna change his point of view! :). I agree with all of what you said.

At the PR 24 level playing port mechanics are going to hold you back from short term gains for sure. Meaning you could just go Otto and not learn and become a major.

The next time you play a game, regardless of whether you win or lose, in the post-match screen, ask your opponent what you did wrong.

They would look at the post-match analysis and perhaps be able to pinpoint what you did wrong off that, or off your shipments played/deck used.

We should play some more games together, you and I had a good match that was back and forth.

Also, I am not sure why you limit yourself to one civ, the more you play a civ the better you know it... The more you know a civ the better you are playing against it.

Yeah it was really fun i would like to play against you.

Yeah i actually have the hard time against civs i dont know much. But i believe in the sprit of mastering, dont know if it is a good example but playing dota i played only few heroes after that i got a lot better in game. I feel like i dont even play properly, i just want to get proper in something; otherwise i feel like i mix things i know wrong, which can be harmful.

I like them because i think they are versatile and not very standart. 10/10 rush, Atp, water, ff, fi. Also i find it challenging, i dont want to stick in solid builds in one civ. Every civ is unique but some civs are more unique :D

My personal progress of late is being made by watching recordings and playing more civs.
Playing more civs myself has helped to understand the other players better in stead of playing only one civ. I better asses and predict what others might be doing if I actually know the civ first hand.

And imo port should play either age 2 or age 4, skipping fortress age.
Reason:
If you wanna take map control, just play age 2. At least you're fast, and with tc mm you can hold the outside tc.
If you dont wanna take map control, age 4 factory/jinete goon/heavy cannons are important for you.
Port dont have good units in age 3, nor do they have good eco.

Record a few games in which you don't make big mistakes (e.g forgetting to ship 700w, running your skirms into cav, etc), it doesn't matter if you lose or win. Post these recorded games in the recorded games section on these forums and I'm sure some better players will be able to help you!

I think you should ignore posts like Couprider's above this one. You're not going to get better by remembering trivia information and very specific build orders. You'll want to improve your mechanics and APM.

One good way to learn is to play vs better opponents, try to take their advice since theyre one step ahead of you.
Whatch 1st person streams to learn BOs and tricks.
Start working on mechanics, such as control groups, the basics of kiting, snaring and escaping snare etc.
If you need any specific tips, I'm sure most ppl in here will be willing to help

Well, specifically: what is kiting, snaring (I'm sure I'll get escaping snare once I get snaring :hmm: )

Thx in advance :chinese:
