Having prize pot be whatever was donated that tourney?
Having prize pot be whatever was donated that tourney?
What if the prize pot for each tourney was not predetermined, but would just be whatever was donated during that tourney?
I think this would have a couple of advantaged over the current system:
1) It would encourage players to be nicer to each other, not late, more likely to be willing to schedule during prime time, and hopefully create less problems for the admins
2) It may make the tournament more competitive; I think during this spring tourney much more than $1500 was donated; if there was $2500 at stake, I think many players (including bronze match) would have prepared more
This won't necesarily mean that we will have less small events if we give out all the money at once; those small events will be funded by their own donations.
ESOC could have a $500 fund to supplement the prize pool if they really think it's needed.

What do you do about the money donated between tourneys?

Why not both?
I like the idea but we need a standard prize pool, otherwise it might just be like $500 donated. Perhaps a fixed prize pool of $1500 then on top of that the money donated. This could be quite big!

Yeah I mentioned that ESOC could keep a bank of $500 or something to complement the prize pool if they think it's too little.

Add it to the prize pool I guess. Most of the money will still come from donations during tourney so the advantages will still be there.

Honestly, if youre not willing to commit for 1500, i doubt you will be willing for 2500. The size of thr prizepot is really not the main problem, unless ofc you mean its like 10x smaller than it ought to be, then yes, it could add incentive.
The problem is the game is not competitive enough between tournaments, and the tournamemts are not frequent enough or take too long to make full commitment attractive.

Well what we mostly need is money for the 4th, not more money overall

Perhaps, but it might make the players already in the tournament take it more seriously; for example, I believe LR and BS both claimed they didn't practice much for the finals.

If youre not willing to practice for 750, then 1250 is not big enough of an increase to motivate, if money is the reason. You mistake the symptom for the disease

lol what is this?
Re: Having prize pot be whatever was donated that tourney?
Logic: esoc maximizes prize pots in a consistent manner. The incentive to sign up is much bigger when you know there will actually be a prize pot. A one time difference of 500$ wont make people interested if 1500$ didnt make them interested.
So bad idea imo.

Re: Having prize pot be whatever was donated that tourney?
the time span is simply too big. people would train much harder for a prize pool thats even only a 1000$ when the entire event would take only 1 week, or even 1 weekend.
Re: Having prize pot be whatever was donated that tourney?
It would not be insane to have a much higher pr requirement combined with a qualifier for low pr players.
Re: Having prize pot be whatever was donated that tourney?
I would like to combine the last two ideas from umeu and jerom and propose a tourney with higher pr requirement in general and qualifiers ahead of the main tourney to guarantee dedicated players and a smooth, short and quality main event.
Having said that, there should also be a smaller tourney for lower players afterwards again to not be too elitist and accessible to "anyone"

Re: Having prize pot be whatever was donated that tourney?
I like the idea of qualifiers. Would it be better to run them using seeded brackets based on PR or a group stage where those with the most wins make it through to the tourney?

Probably the best episode of south park, though the money thing is just a detail to be fair

When you're not pr30 plus there really little to achieve in the current tournament. Qualifying for the big event would be a very nice goal to set.
I also think itd kinda up the quality of the streams. Theres a lot of uninteresting stream content nowadays which has made me, at least, watch much less.

I highlly doubt thats true, BS every single game is talking like "yeah I'm much better, if I lose its because I didnt practice and you are trying hard"

Not exactly about the topic but i want to see more pro matches in tournament. So, lets make it 14 people invited and 2 people come from wild cart tournament(like second change). Like ti in dota. Then groups matches etc.
