Eso Account security
As you might be aware, lately we started to hear more hacking news about the eso accounts.. I don't know yet if it's a hole in the security system or just people are making easyfound passwords but here I will give some tips to secure your account..
1 - Don't make the password as the name is, ( such as your name is x and you put the pass as x123 )
2 - Be aware that easy-found passwords are the main reason of hackings, try to avoid using 123456 1234567 1234678 etc.
3 - Try to install a virus program and check up your computer.. ( Norton - Esed - Avast are recommended )
After making all those, if you still lose the control, be aware that there is still have a chance to get your account back with some necessary informations such as
CD Key - Product ID - Account Creation Date - Secret Question
Don't forget to take the note of these informations,
Cheers!

Re: Eso Account security
yes, ideally you must use a password generator and change your password every month or so
Re: Eso Account security
Is there a way to locate the CD Key or Product ID if you no longer have your CD case anymore?
Re: Eso Account security
thx breeze, was about to write a similar post myself. Most account thieves simply try out the most common passwords and succeed with that. If they don't get your password in three to five attempts, they will prolly just stop and move on to another account. Also don't give away any personal info that might tell them a part of your password (e.g. day and year of birth or your personal nickname and so on)

You can see the product ID when you open vanilla and go Help and Tools -> About

Re: Eso Account security
The problem with ESO is that it allows brute forcing. What this means is that a computer guesses every possible combination as fast as possible. Most websites ask for a capatcha or restrict access after a few wrong answers, but ESO doesn't does this.
You can use https://howsecureismypassword.net to check how long it'd take for a computer to log into your ESO account.

I have a feeling this wouldn't work for my old non-steam ESO account, since it's my steam copy I actually have installed on my computer (not the CD I bought back in 2005). Is this correct? Thanks!!
Re: Eso Account security
@Mr_Bramboy I'm pretty sure most acc thieves don't even use that stuff. Since I had a mate resorting to acc stealing some time ago I saw that even a total idiot like him, he really wasn't the brightest, could easily get passwords right just by trying out for 10 minutes. Some passwords he just guessed, some people were dumb enough to believe that "I will level up your acc pls give me pw and I give it back later" nonsense

Correct. If you no longer have the CD nor the game installed from that CD, I don't see how it can be retrieved.

I would have the game installed on an old hard drive, but the computer it belongs to is long gone. I'd have to actually find it in the game files somewhere.
I suppose none of this is important if I keep my account secure. I was just wanting to make sure I had my ducks lined up in case something bad happened.

From what I am gathering, that will be impossible for me since my ESO Account is associated with a 12 year old CD Key/PID I no longer have access to. :(

ideally you have a password so hard you cant memorize, and write it down in a notepad file in desktop.
