also, is it possible to electrocute another person i meet on ESO through his keyboard or hardware or sth? idk how computer works..
Re: can we find IP from eso?
Yes, its easily done with external software when you are in a game lobby with someone. Although I do not know exactly what software.
Re: can we find IP from eso?
Use the IP checker made by Xakops. Very good and easy to use.
Redacted: Xakops launched a cyberattack on the ESO-C site, and his content is believed to contain malware.

Re: can we find IP from eso?
This is easy to do wth many programs that are not special to aoe3. The game uses p2p which means you have to share your ip to the person you connect to.
Re: can we find IP from eso?
Please don't post links to Xakops software - he attacked the ESOC site, and some of his content has been shown to contain malware. As such, we will not host it or allow users to link it on the forums.

Re: can we find IP from eso?
Lol his content has been shown to contain malware in the same way ESOC patch has been shown to contain malware. It's asinine and childish to ban links to useful software because of the person who made it.

That is simply not true. One of his over the air "updates" to the ESO Assistant intentionally deleted the software from your PC, and as he had deleted all the download links there was no easy way to get it back. I would argue that is a form of malware. I'm not sure if this is the incident being referenced, or if it was referencing something else I don't know about.
Also I totally disagree with the idea that it would be "childish" to ban software because its author is untrustworthy. You should never install software from authors who are not trustworthy. Regardless of what a piece of software appears to be, it could also be stealing your passwords, your personal data, and monitoring your network traffic, among any number of things. I don't think it's likely that the ESO-A is doing these things. However, it is entirely possible that it could be. I don't trust its author enough to feel safe using his software.

Perhaps it is safe right now, but I can easily imagine the author could snap (again) and randomly push an auto-update that turns the program into malware. You cannot really rule that out since this guy has previously made the program delete itself and he's also launched a denial-of-service attack on ESOC. Encouraging usage of his programs doesn't seem a sane thing for us to do at this point, if we value our users' security.

Re: can we find IP from eso?
Wireshark should work fine, although the UI might be a bit overwhelming for the novice.
Pay more attention to detail.
Re: can we find IP from eso?
His program has never contained anything bad. Everyone was happy with the program until Xakops made the IP checker option. Forum staff said that it is against privacy and asked him to delete it. He has put a lot of work into it so he raged, insulted the staff and deleted his posts.
Re: can we find IP from eso?
I think it was rather the fact that people were suspicious of an unknown executable, which insulted him due to the amount of work he put into it. I doubt it was due to privacy issues.

Re: can we find IP from eso?
The only thing it does is to make the players' IPs more easily accessible to people who wouldn't know how to find them otherwise. You should know that unless you actively take measures to hide your IP, it will be known by various people. Do not treat it as a secret when it is not - you will merely fool yourself.

Re: can we find IP from eso?
How can you argue that the program 'has been shown to contain malware" and then reference an update that literally causes the program to no longer exist on one's computer? That's not what people mean when they talk about malware. I don't consider xakops to be much less trustworthy then many people of esoc. I've never met him or interacted with him, and iv seen the ugly and mean side of many of the esoc staff. Unless I'm just supposed to consider multiple people who I've never met or talked to trustworthy by default, which seems foolish, I wouldn't have downloaded esoc patch if I only downloaded stuff demo people I trust. Do I consider it likely that someone would snap and create a malicious update? Not at all, but it's not completely outside of the realm of possibility. It's a risk you have to take when you download software from any small developer. Facts remain that it is not known that the software contains anything malicious, so a useful tool, that should come with fair warning to those wanting to use it, is being censored because the mods of the site don't like the developer. Now he's given good reason not to like him, but once again unless it's been demonstrated that his software contains malware its dumb to censor it. Btw it doesn't even update automatically so you can just download it and never update it and risk nothing.musketeer925 wrote:gibson wrote:Lol his content has been shown to contain malware in the same way ESOC patch has been shown to contain malware. You make it sound as though we banned his software because of some petty personal spat. This is nonsense - we banned it because he hid malicious software in his content, and because HE LAUNCHED A CYBER-ATTACK ON ESOC! You'll forgive us if we don't want to host and promote his content given his track record.

He never hid anything. Staff didn't like it when he added the IP checker, I clearly remember a lot of people were saying that they do not want to be detected and were asking to remove it. Now this thread is deleted, you could possibly bring it back and see. Insults and the attack were after that.
Re: can we find IP from eso?
once again, I'd like to see an example of "malicious software" besides the update that Uninstalled the program. And I do consider it petty since his "attack vs esoc" has absolutely nothing to do with his eso assistant. You guys don't like him, therefore we censor any link to his software and pretend it's because the software is malicious. I'll believe you when I see demonstration that his software was malicious because I have used just about every feature of it and have never come across anything malicious.Papist wrote:gibson wrote:Lol his content has been shown to contain malware in the same way ESOC patch has been shown to contain malware. Note that this isn't entirely true, parts of the program can be updated remotely without asking you anything.

IMO it currently doesn't do malicious stuff.
