Not even AoM? I'm not sure why, probably the politicians versus gods thing, but I've always really thought of AoM as being fairly similar to AoEIII.
I think I would go:
AoEIII (I wish the AI didn't use mercs though, they're not good at it)
AoM (but not Titans... Atlanteans are... not a well thought out idea)
AoEII (from when I was younger: now I prefer Rise of Rome because the nostalgia memories are just too good)
AoE
Castle Siege (it's okay but very different)
Never played AOEO, unfortunately... I always wanted to but by the time we got a better computer it was too late.
