How has AOE3 changed since 2005-2006?

Hey guys! I came accross a twitch channel called ESOCTV and it brought back memories of AOE3 haha. I used to love this game but I forgot what account I used and the email associated with it damnit lol.... I have a few questions about this game.

Is this game active?

Is this a hard game to learn online?

I saw the strategy wall so I'll just look at that if I start playing XD

I've noticed players having a certain tempo where they always try to age fast and get certain economy technologies early on. This is a far cry from how I used to play because I just cared about getting one big army and trying to win with that.

I've noticed that this website has a massive amount of resources to learn every civilization possible which seems different from the old AOE3 websites where you got really no help at all.

I see you have YouTube links as well which is awesome. This is useful for me because I don't have hours to figure stuff out myself with this game. I'm a very competitive person so I'll have fun with all of these resources. Right now I'm practicing the build orders offline until I decide to stop being lazy and purchase an account lol

It's usually called Fast-Fortress — you skip the fighting in the Colonial Age, apart from a few defending/raiding units, to get technological advantages of your civilisation, be it: skirmishers, dragoons, cuirassiers, falconets or whatever.
For clashes with big armies you might as well try treaty, which can be perhaps something new to you, as I think it was introduced just in TWC in 2006.
