This is like the farthest thing from incompetence. They are delaying to release a better product. Seems to be a huge improvement over the past. I see this as a really positive sign of things to come.

They've never been competent when it comes to games, period.

At least they're not going to release an incomplete game like they did with AoEO.

They posted this very close to the release date. They either fucked something up or couldnt fix a certain issue.

There are just too many bugs, and they won't be able to fix them any soon.

This is a good thing. As n0el says, it means they actually care about releasing the game in an acceptable state, rather than in AoM:EE state.
As they've announced four titles in the series, it would be a bit ambitious to release a completely bugged game and then expect people to straight up buy more of such.

what bugs could they possibly get? i mean dont they practically take an already fully functioning game and then just add some extra skins and change some stat value? i cant see how that would create bugs.

They have been fiddling with the game's pathfinding and also relaunching the game's online multiplayer on a new platform (xbox live), which requires a ton of changes.

Yeah it doesn't seem to me a bad news. I hope we will not wait 1 year, but delaying a release in order to have a far better product is clever and professional

Many games end up being delayed a bit. I think MS mightve been a bit optimistic with officially announcing the release date though.

I'm so pleased to see they aren't rushing out a half baked product.

Massive props to Microsoft, shows they're dedicated to the user experience and not all about money.

If anything they just wanted to release it really fast for the hype, and underestimated the amount of work needed. So it's more of a project management issue, doesn't mean the game itself gonna suck or that they won't be able to fix the bugs

yeah i figured it was probably the AI systems, though would have hoped some of it could just have been copypastaed from AOE2HD, same engine and all.

when it comes to deadlines well that was gonna happen, after all the people working on this aren't exactly developers but more like hired fans, which is only doable because of how simple the game is (it is a 2d game after all). i am not the slightest bit worried about the DE version for AOE 3 since they'll have to find an actual developer for that.

Better delay it than releasing a half-finished product.

I know it's a fact they seem to care about the final product but I think you will agree there's a poor planning when 6 days before the release date they delay it several months...I mean, they should know this long ago, better to warn people 2 months ago or something. Just don't force it to match the 20th anniversary. Potential buyers deserve more consideration.

I'm not very hyped about this game but I want it to be a success, cause we all know what is going to happen about AOE3 DE if it fails...

You can't delay releases if you never gave a release date though.

Did we have a release date prior to this?
