Suspected Cheating

Post by Inst »

What do you do if you suspect a cheater? Moreover, did I actually play a cheater? I'm playing against a player who seemed to have built 20 villagers in 4 seconds as French. Is it legitimately possible to create so many villagers so fast? IIRC, I was playing on the Siberian map with the frozen river and the trading posts on the side. It shouldn't have been possible to get native villagers, right?

Correct.

What you do is avoid the player and warn others of him, as well as report him to Microsoft if you're feeling up to the task. What you don't do is make name accusations on ESOC. Steady as she goes...

"What you do is avoid the player and warn others of him [gender-biased]"
"What you don't do is make name accusations on ESOC"

That's sort of contradictory, isn't it? That said, since I don't actually have a replay (I assume he'll ditch if I set it to Record Game), I can't prove anything. Likewise, since I don't have concrete evidence, and I point him out, he could just disable cheats and make me look bad when he doesn't cheat in game. That said, it's a Captain.

@Inst you don't necessarily need a recorded game to check whether this person is cheating or not. You can just find the game you played against him on ELO ladders (here), and click on the "detail" link bringing you to agecommunity stats. In these stats, I can read that your opponent was playing France, but somehow produced 10 settlers, though France can only produce cdbs. So yes, he was cheating, but don't type his name here or mods will get some hemorroids.

Not at all. You warn others of him elsewhere.

I feel like I'm being DDOSed now for mentioning the game. That said, how do I report the person to Microsoft?

Microsoft unfortunately does not give a shit. Just try your best to avoid this person in the future.
Pay more attention to detail.

I bet it was Macksnead, he is going round doing that. He is a confirmed cheater as France (or any other civ). Pest and move on. A good way to spot a cheater is badly made decks for that level and a very high win percentage. This guy doesn't even cover it up. Pest and move on is all you can do.
