Things you may be banned for
These are all in the news section on eso.com. MS moderators have said that they can and will still ban for things that were considered bannable in the past so it's best to be aware of these and avoid doing similar things.
ESO Bannings 03/31/06
Today we have banned a batch of players from ESO for a variety of cheats, including hacked decks, point trading, as well as for racist chat channels and comments.
Mods and Hacks 04/05/06
It has come to our attention that a popular UI mod enables users to zoom out further than the game usually allows. This gives the player with the mod an unfair advantage, and we consider this cheating when used in multiplayer games. If you are using a mod that has this functionality, do not make use of it in multiplayer games, or uninstall the mod.
We are also looking into other hacks at this time, and would like to remind players that we have a zero tolerance policy towards cheating and the use of hacks.
ESO Bannings 02/07/07
With the end of the ladder season coming up, we will be paying special attention to point traders over the next couple of weeks. Quite a number of players were banned in the last ladder season for this form of cheating and we will continue to have a zero tolerance policy toward point traders.
We will also be doing a round of bannings for players who attempt to extort ESO account passwords from other players, or otherwise attempt to gain control of another player's account, as well as anyone who uses hacks or cheats.
Map Hack Bannings 03/22/07
The most prolific users of a map hack for Age of Empires III and The WarChiefs have just been banned from online play. We advise all players to refrain from using any sort of third party program to cheat in online games. We are aware of this activity and will be banning anyone from this day forward who uses such a program to degrade the online experience of the vast majority of players who play fairly.
Fire Pit Exploit Bannings 05/30/07
As part of the next patch, several issues have been addressed and fixed, which includes the Fire Pit exploit. The patch is still undergoing extensive testing and will be released as soon as it is completed. The latest exploit takes advantage of the Fire Pit and is being reported to us. We will be banning any players caught using this exploit after today. Any player reported or caught taking advantage of this bug as of today will be given at least a 3 week ban and will be removed from the ladders. This is part of the ongoing effort against cheating and hacking in online play.
Keeping Your ESO Account Secure 11/12/07
Here are some basic tips for making sure that no one else can log in or steal your ESO account:
Never share your account information with anyone or use your ESO password on websites or forums.
Ensemble Studios employees will not ask for your password. If you are logged on to ESO and someone is asking for your account password or account information, please immediately take a screenshot of the chat messages by pressing the "Print Screen" button, opening MS paint (or other image program) and paste the screenshot. Save it and attach it to an e-mail.
Deathmatch Bannings 02/26/08
The ladder season is ending and we will be removing point traders and other nefarious players so that those of you who worked hard for your medals will be awarded.
Those of you who play Deathmatch games in Asian Dynasties likely know that there is a bug that allows the Asian civilizations to be able to break the rules and advance to the fifth age. Players who are reported for exploiting this will be removed from the ladders and if they continue to use it they will be banned. Screenshots or recorded games will be required, so make sure you take them and attach them to your e-mail.
Drop Trickery 11/15/07
The exploit known as "drop tricking", or purposefully disrupting your own internet connection in order to try and gain a win without actually winning the game, is considered cheating and will result in your ESO account being permanently banned. Occasionally, players lose connection legimately with each other, but if you feel that the person you were playing has intentionally dropped connection with you, please e-mail us with their ESO name and we will investigate.
French Cheaper Church Card 04/03/08
A bug was discovered in Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties following the release of patch 1.01. A French home city card lowers the Church building cost to a negative number, so that a player can receive wood for placing a Church. Exploiting this bug in games is subject to a ban from online play.
We are working on a fix for some bugs, including this one, and we will be releasing a 1.01a patch for The Asian Dynasties, hopefully as soon as next week. Saved and recorded games using the 1.01 patch will not be compatible with the game once it has been updated to 1.01a.
That is the situation at the moment, we'll do our best to keep you updated on an ETA for patch 1.01a as we get closer to having it finalized.
Community Bannings - Point Traders 7/21/08
We have been removing point traders from the ladders for several seasons, making sure that they are not awarded medals and ruining the hard work of our legitimate players. After seeing that there are many repeat offenders that take part in point trading we will be enacting a harsher penalty. Players that are caught will still have their medals removed. We will also be banning players found to be point trading for at least 2 weeks and longer if you are a repeat offender.
We are also investigating reports of cheating in Death Match games. We will continue to pursue players that try and cheat our online system. If you suspect that you have been cheated in a game write in.

Good list. No double-decking anywhere?
Also, let me remind everyone with my obligatory opinion that the ONLY reason that explorer revive is not bannable is that ES was dead by the time it became widespread.

At least half of the list here was bug abusing, under which category the explorer revive falls, doesnt matter if its a cheat or not, it would be bannable.evilcheadar wrote:and that its not cheataizamk wrote:Good list. No double-decking anywhere?

Double-decking was discovered after ES closed and before RE took over. In that time period cheating was rampant. Once RE took over moderation of the game, warnings and bans were issued. Finally, the exploit was patched.

Hi Everyone,
Have you been cheated by double decking or some other way?
Send an email with any relevant screenshots to [email protected] and we'll look into it.
Don't forget you can take pictures of people's decks too.
Thanks,

Robot Entertainment
With Robot Entertainment's takeover of ESO and Age3 Support we have had to make some necessary changes to how support, and ESO is handled. The long and short of it is, it's still going to be run mostly like it used to under Ensemble. If it goes down, we work as fast as we can to get it back up. If someone cheats, we ban them after investigation. If you steal accounts, you get permanently banned.
If you're reporting point traders put "Point Traders" in the subject. A link to their Elorating.com page is *very* helpful here.
If you are reporting a double deck exploiter, put "Double Deck" in the subject, and any screenshots of their decks/game stats.
If your account got stolen put "Stolen Account" in the subject, and include your username and Product ID (not cd-key) from Age3 Vanilla.
If you're reporting that friends account got stolen, put his information too, or better yet just have him email us.??
We are also changing punishments for violations of ESO terms of service.
Point Trading is a permanent ban on first offense.
Exploits and Cheating of any kind of a permanent ban on the first offense.
Account Theft is a permanent ban on the first offense.
Account Theft is obviously making some users angry that they stole accounts and now are getting banned for it, where before they didn't get caught and thus weren't banned. I will explain a little bit about our methodology.
If a user reports that their account was stolen, we verify that it is their account through their PID/other information. This prevents people from false accusations.
Once that is complete, we go through our logs and cross reference cd-keys, IP addresses and usernames. If that account has ever been logged on another computer since 1 week previous to the report of it being stolen, every cross-referenced cd-key and username is banned from ESO.
So, if David Steals Adams account, and David's friends Bob and Charlie logged on at David's house, they will find themselves permanently banned. This is to prevent accounts from being spread around. Also if Adam's account was logged on at Charlie's house, everyone who ever logged on at Charlie's house will be banned as well, and so on and so forth.
So, in short. Do not share accounts. Do not ever log in to an account that is not your own. Do not let your friends log in to accounts on your computer. Because if your friend's friend steals an account, your account might end up banned as well since we can't tell the difference between account thieves and their "innocent friends".
This might seem harsh, but it's very simple to not get banned. Do not ever log in to an account that is not your own, ever under any circumstance.
We suffered a big rash of cheating/account theft since Ensemble Studios was closed and we are working to rectify that, and we appreciated the community's help with that.

Put 25 villagers on the pit, and ring the town centre bell 3x really fast.
The pit becomes bugged at 25 villagers while having 0 dancing.

Nice summary! Even though ES/RE never made a statement, I think you should add the explorer revival cheat to teach the idiotd that it's cheating.
The fire pit big, double decking, and aging to the Imperial age in Deathmatch with Asian civs are all examples of cheating by exploiting a bug. These were all bannable offenses as proven by your post, so the explorer revival cheat should be bannable as well.

Interesting how they think exploits are a perm ban. I mean, explorer revive isnt worthy of perm ban to me.
I wonder what punishment they would put on moesbar hacks. Death sentence?
