Yes Id agree, although in a fantasy or future setting you can be more creative when it comes to the units.

IMO aoe 3 lacks a lot of realism although prolly aoe 3 is the only rts that comes closest to being realistic maybe. and i would love aoe 4 in same time frame or a bit ahead but with lot of realism or you can say same aoe 3 with realistic features would also be great
