i guess i got my answer anyway. 80% of top school kids are from upper class in france, and most of them went to linguistic trip = best way to learn. it might not come from prepa afterall

In high school it is only 2hours and keep in mind that only 50% of people (I think) go in high school.
Of course people who're in european class have 4 hours so they're better.

I totally agree that learning spanish 2 hours a week for only 5 years is pointless and should be optional since, anyway, we can't speak spanish.

I learned German for 7 years with 3 years in European class. It's 4 hours/week in high school : 2 normal + 2 about the German history/geography. I remember I was average and about 90% were (way) better than me. Why ? Because they had a "Brieffreund", a German speaker they could visit or speak/chat with. It's only one main reason of course.

In short, you can't be good if you do only what school asks you to do. At least in France.

Tbh you can learn a language almost perfectly, but if you dont keep using it, its pointless practice and you will soon forget most of it. And in the end the best way to learn is to be in an enviroment ( offline is better, but online will do) where you are constantly immersed in the language

@benj89 I feel like it's different for maths, physics or biology. You can do the bare minimum and still succeed. But yeah after highschool, I totally agree with you.
