I found that in the last matches of the tournament there were discrepancies with the civs people used. I think match ups should be predefined for the most competitive play possible. Any other suggestions are good here and thoughts about suggestions also would be helpful.

What exactly do you mean by discrepancies with the civs ?
Civ rules are always going to be tricky as each civ is at a different level of balance. :-['

The infinite civ loop with the complaints of having an unfair mu.

In 99% of cases both players did find a MU they were both willing to play. I think the admins only had to force a blind pick rule on maybe 2 (ish) occasions.
What specifically didn't you like about it ? Is it that there was too much downtime between games when players kept cycling ? Or you don't like the players feeling uncomfortable about clicking into a bad MU for example ?
When you say predefined matches, do you mean predefined by an admin or predefined by players in advance (so the match runs smoothly) ?

The system used previously seemed to work well enough if you ask me, yeah it took a while between games sometimes but it all worked out in the end.

i like the way how the civ stuff was handled in this tournament. in that way both players were fine with the matchup eventho it took some mins sometimes

As long as no Iro and Ottos, it will be fine.

I think otto and iro should be allowed in at least some of the future tournaments, maybe with restrictions like one can play either one of them only once in a series.

No iro or otto was a brilliant decision

If Iro is allowed then the 4 kanya card should be banned imo.
If a player is using otto & doing a standard ff, perhaps we could ban 1k coin. If colonial play, enforcing a limit for abus like 8 max seems fairer. Then no limit. (I'm not sure otto is that op though)

Maybe maybe something like a civ veto joker
e.g.
I have one map where I can say "I don't want my opponent to play that civ"

Exactly! The only case I saw players beeing unable to agree was Garja vs Boneng. You will never make every playewr happy and I think we came very close. So the rules should stay the way they are.wickedcossack wrote:In 99% of cases both players did find a MU they were both willing to play. And I think a civ veto would really make pretty much every player unhappy so please no

They could enforce "mirror only" to keep it fair. I doubt that would be accepted by the community though.

This would be less entertaining to watch and wouldn't make it fair. Because it would favour mechanically good players more than stratigically good players but we already had this discussion somewhere in the forum...

It would just favor good players as if there's no strategy in mirrors

Of course there is this is not a black or white thing. But you can't argue that there are more ways for the game to play out if it is a none mirror. i mean with only mirrors we would have 12 different match ups instead of the 70, 80 or whatever it was. So a lot more room for different stuff to be tried
And for those who can't agree with that, let's just agree to disagree and keep this chat from getting spamed '-)

Ye that''s quite a hard point to get across.

When civ a beats civ b it's not even matchup at the top level. Since we have so many civs there's tons of these match ups. It's less strategic for me to play Brits vs German than it is to play either mirror. Even if there is not a clear answer on who wins. One of those civs is favored and it's just a disadvantage to be on the other side.
