Tip of the Day — Monitors
Tip of the Day — Monitors
Today let's focus on Monitors and their attack capabilities, mainly the Long-range Attack.
1. Long-range Attack can kill maximum 3 units, regardless of their HP. If, let's say, 10 houses are placed close to each other, in the range of Monitor's splash damage, still only 3 will be destroyed. The same goes with weak units, as Strelets. If you aim your warship on enemy's army then, pick stronger units to kill, as the whole damage will be taken.
2. You can see whether the building has been destroyed by the Long-range Attack by noticing the burnt pieces and cinders left under the building, like on the image:
However, you must remember you destroyed it, as after a couple of second the outlook of the building will remain untouched and in this case the TP will still be shown as having full HP. If you aim your Monitor again at it, the Long-range attack will be available, but if you use it, you'll just waste a shot and you will damage the empty space, as on the image:
In fact, every Trading Post spot is available to be bombarded — of course when in range of a Monitor — regardless of the fact whether the TP is built there or not. Sometimes you may got lucky and snipe it.
In terms of Asian wonders, after destroying them you hear a characteristic sound, which may reassure that they have been taken down.
This whole point may be irrelevant if you just calculate and take into account Long-range Attack and the HP of the building you're going to attack (so the number of Monitor shots required), but sometimes you're not certain how many HP does a particular building have, whether it has any upgrades or not (like ATP or buildings HP cards) or just don't have time to calculate — the information here may then be useful.
3. Trivia time — did you know that Spanish „Unction" card affect warships as well? Fully-upgraded (with all necessary HC cards) Spanish Mortars have 7330 Long-range Attack and can one-shot a TC (6500 HP)!

Interesting advices.
If you play Portuguese you can combine monitors with spyglass.

Re: Tip of the Day — Monitors
This is what tip of the day should have been. Would love to see some tactical advice as well.
Re: Tip of the Day — Monitors
Really intersting!
Re: Tip of the Day — Monitors
Yeah, I forgot to mention, on water maps you should also scout enemy's town to get the vision for your monitors. Spyglass is nice, maybe advanced balloon if you wanna troll a bit, cause I don't really see monitors bombarding in a regular, somewhat competetive game xD You can also suicide your cavalry to get the LOS of the most important buildings of your opponent, like Factories or TCs.

Re: Tip of the Day — Monitors
If you want to delay some Trade Monopolys aka take down TP's you need at least one attck upgrade too.
Re: Tip of the Day — Monitors
So... Which monitor is good for gaming? i have the Asus ROG Swift 144 Hz GSYNC Monitor, and it's pretty good tbh.

Re: Tip of the Day — Monitors
wait, so every TP can be bombarded from the sea? is that a thing for large maps?
Re: Tip of the Day — Monitors
There should be a range limit
Re: Tip of the Day — Monitors
This is a good post. I even learned a couple of things.

I'd rather focus on quality rather than on quantity, but if I find something interesting, I'll definitely post that!

Of course not. The ability is available whenever you put your cursor on enemy's building, you can click on it, your monitor will try to find the best path to have the shortest distance, but if it doesn't, you'll hear the command said multiple times. I can't really describe it properly, just try it out in scenario editor and you'll know.
iNcog wrote:There should be a range limit
Of course there is, monitors' Long-range Attack on RE has 100 range, on EP it was nerfed to 70.
EDIT: Ah, yeah, the information I wrote may have been misleading, I took for granted that people would take range into consideration. Now I have edited the OP and it should be alright!

i was answering howlingwolfpaw
Re: Tip of the Day — Monitors
Ok, so I misunderstood again. I thought you insisted on implementing a limit, but you just said there possibly already is one. Sorry!

Pecelot talked about that in his last point--apparently you can one-shot a TC with the special ability.
