Diplomunion AoE Tournament Update.

This is an addition for the original thread, please see https://www.diplomunion.com/index.php?t ... ent.23183/ for more info. Thank you.

note - someone pls make a good logo for this. At least bling it up a bit. Paint.NET and CoolText can only go so far.

Timeframe:
The tournament will start in week 2 of December. I am away for 3 weeks from now, so I can't really help. This will give people a chance to catch up on their AoE skills and more people to sign up. I will still be an Admin role until then, however I may not be able to help you practice :( (Note I wrote this in for the Diplo people, I don't think you guys need practice from me. The Admin role is also more on the Diplo side of things). There will be an understandable hiatus of the tournament through the Christmas period however you can still play your games and I will be around. The time limit will not apply through the hiatus.

There is a 1-week time limit for each round. Once your game as been announced, here and on the discord you will have 1 week to fulfill the match-up. If there are any conflicting times (we can't stream 2 at once :p) there will be a coin toss to see who goes first, or if you don't mind/want your game to be streamed you can simply upload a recording and we will do a voiceover.

Map Pool:

As I said there were going to be balanced ESO-C maps so hunts/mines/treasures will be quite even. These are some of the best maps you can play in the game, for competitive 1v1.
The map pool is:
- ESOC Kamchatka
- ESOC Manchuria
- ESOC Mendocino
- ESOC Florida
- ESOC Arizona
- ESOC Arkansas
- ESOC Hudson Bay
Only in the final two rounds are a best of 7, so earlier rounds there will be a veto system, where one player votes to eliminate each map, until we have one left. This system works well in games such as CSGO and SC2 where similar problems exist in other tournaments. If you have played CSGO Face-It, it will be like that.
For more information on these maps, I will be in the discord and can give you a game or two on them, or check out the ESO-C post here: viewtopic.php?f=158&t=6679

Casters:
In the weeks now leading up to the tournament, I'll be looking for people to help me cast the games. A rudimentary knowledge is required but not much so really it's open to anyone. A decent microphone would be nice as well as nice internet. Just pm me either on discord or on the forums. I think we need about 2 or 3. This is for when I am sleepy and the game is being played in different timezones, or I am busy with work. This tournament has quite a lot more people than I was expecting so it would be a major bonus to your Twitch Channel if you have one.

Groupings:
In the first few rounds it may be hard to get all the games done within a week. The first round has around 32 people in it at the moment, so squeezing all those games in to one week (16 with a bo3 = a lot of games) will be a struggle. I will select the groupings of around 8 people to play in that week. I should have a lot of free time, so I will hopefully be available for every game. In the event you cannot play in your grouping for that week just message me and I will place you in another. Each group will be of similar PR for the first round.

Special thanks to Garja and the rest of the ESO-C Map Team for making these maps and the documentation to go with them.

More thanks to Aizamk for making the custom observer UI. This makes casting much easier. Thank you.

Finally thank you to Diarouga for rule suggestions and creation of the map pool, as well as everyone else that has suggested stuff in the original thread. Without you guys it would probably be a lot worse. Thank you.

As usual if you have any suggestions or if I have tripped up again (I am tired 24/7) please leave a (nice) note below, or pm me.

You should definitely cast for an event like this. You are saying you want to cast for a long time now, but you never took action. I'm curious, hope you get a place

Are you the only admin/staff member for this tournament? From experience I can tell you right now that you'll probably want some help, even if only a couple of friends. :P

Something to think about anyway.

Finally thank you to Diarouga for rule suggestions and creation of the map pool

That's what half of the community wants, and since in ESOC you the staff decides to put way too many unstandard maps, I guess it's totally fine.

As long as there's even one standard map, most games will probably be played on that, since people will veto everything else. Might as well have all standard for variety.

I love this diversity. Only TP maps with 3 hunts at base and mostly 2 mines at base too.

Btw, why did you chose arkansas and kamtchaka ?

Because 50% of the time is good enough with rehosts if you compare it with some other maps.

Well yea that map pool is now too far in the other direction. Though I don't think it will matter much for this tourny since its more for fun with people who are not as experienced but just like the age of empire games in general, so you will get strange games anyways on the standard maps.
