Fixed mines discussion
Fixed mines discussion
Does fixing mines on a map eliminate the possibility of missing a mine? I played a game on one of the esoc maps where I was missing a starting mine and it made me think abt fixed mines.
So what do y'all think abt fixed mines like as on the Colorado map?

While we're at it, we may as well just use maps with nothing random at all to ensure a perfectly fair game all the time.

Given some people's thoughts on the matter I legitimately can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not.

Re: Fixed mines discussion
Just to be clear, thats not a troll answer:
Something to try is a mirrored map, static, explored at beggining, just like starcraft.
I belive if all maps were like this would be boring, but looks like a cool concept for one map, that might be used only in friendly games, and maybe someday get in a tournament pool if its found to be fun/good.

It's just a differentiator in age games. We have great map makers at this point even with random elements we are 9/10 times fair maps.
Manchuria actually has fixed mines. Colorado does too. We use fixed resources in certain situations based on how crowded the area is. More crowded means constraints work better. More empty areas benefit from some fixing I think.
One of the maps guys can probably explain it way better :).

Yes I definitely agree that the current methodology is fine, maps have never been better. Its just something different to try and see how the games go, fixed and revealed treasures might lead to some interesting interactions.
Re: Fixed mines discussion
I think fixed treasures could be very interesting if it's done properly. Currently the treasures add some skill cap because of scouting pattern but fixed treasures could make some interesting games.
mad cuz bad
Re: Fixed mines discussion
Fixed maps, no treasures, delete age 1, delete all civs but port brit and French, and balance from there
Re: Fixed mines discussion
Thar Desert got a new algorithm for hunts and mines which still provides random location with rotation symetry.
I've always claimed that treasures are unfair and should be fixed. At least the gap between trash tiers treasures and OP treasures is too big. For me unbalanced treasures bring far much unfairness than crates.

Re: Fixed mines discussion
Fixing all the resources makes the game stale and repetitive. As long as everyone gets the same resources, there should be a randomness factor.

Re: Fixed mines discussion
yeah that are tres that really give an unfair advantage. Forn most of the big tres you need army anyway. 300f is not that big in suchh situations.
(100% hero HP, 25% speed, etc fall into that category aswell)

When I first saw "Fixed Mines" i thought the topic was about invisible, fixed position petards that could damage units

Yeah, what if Sioux teepees either acted as mines that explode and cause damage or traps that cause area damage?

Does Colorado really have fixed mines? Isn't it just that it is pretty regular, but with one less coin spot in your base?
