"Becoming"? Turkey has been a dictatorship for a long time now. This is the same guy who tried to ban Twitter, and have a German journalist jailed (in Germany!) for mocking him.

I think he's a good conservative leader for Turkey. He will revive the Ottoman Empire which means AoE4 confirmed.

Turkey used to be very western and modern for the arabic world. I remember a book of me in primary school having pictures of women walking on the street without a kerchief. My sister went to turkey two years ago and told me she felt like she, as a woman, wasnt really supposed to be out on the streets over there.

It seems to me that turkey has rapidly changed and is turning into a more typical arabic country (for the worse from a western point of view). Its hard to objectively judge news like this though. The news reported a few days ago that turkey wanted to lift the judical immunity that parlement members had. My first thought was that this was probably another one of those undemocratic changes. I caught myself thinking that and realized that it was actually a change strengthening the democracy. What I am saying is that we might have lost a little bit of objectivity with regards to turkey.

This however seems very similair to when Putin dismantled russia's democracy.

well theoretically it is a good change becasue now corrupt members of the parliament cant hide behind immunity anymore. However as it is now its merely another tool designed to strenghten erdogans agenda. He now can fabricate charges agaisnt anyone and erase them from the political landscape while simultaneously fortifying his position. Becasue the seats that are lost because of criminal activities ( true or not true ) dont go back to the political party that won it during the elections in the first place. Those seats will be voted again for ==> go to Erdogans party.

Turkey entering EU and England leaving :!:  That would surely be the end of EU!
I dont think Turkey will enter EU though. Every country in EU would have to agree (correct me if I am wrong on this issue) - and frankly I cant see that happening. But Turkey has EU in a corner regarding the refugee situations and are demanding that Turkey citizen can enter EU without a visa. When we know how easy it is to get a false passport in Turkey - it would have almost the same effect. The borders will be over flooded by legit and economic refugees anyway.
I read somewhere that organized criminals make more money on the refugee situations, than on any other shady businesses they have, including drugs, prostitution etc.

The UK will never leave the EU. Luckily. Much ado about nothing as a famous Briton would say.

At least in the U.S. you can speak without fear of some politician throwing you in jail because he didn't like what you said.

BARELY!

The level of alleged as well as perceived freedom is certainly a lot higher in the U.S though...
