I made a quadcopter with a custom arduino board once, it even had a flir sensor attached to it. Battery life was terrible though (~15-20 min).

The basement is currently engaged in rescue operations of the basement drone. It is stuck in a rather tall tree, crashing there after the ear attempted a altitude record. We have constructed a massive pole almost as tall as the tree. pictures to come shoon!!!
