How to "beat the heat"

Post by fightinfrenchman »

Here in Central PA (where the basement is located) it's been extremely hot and humid these past couple days and the forecast says it will continue. Here are the ear's tips for beating the heat! :ear:

- turn on your air conditioner (if you don't have one, get one!)

- dont play aoe (overheating comp will make you hotter)

- wring your fucking neck

- enjoy a big bowl of ice cream to lower your body temp

- avoid exercise (makes you hot + sweaty, not good especially in humidity)

- listen to podcasts to pass the time

- take a dip in the pool

- spend time in places that are generally cooler (such as the basement)

- well

- you're gonna have to drive down there (use the air conditioning in your car)

- long beach

- make sure your house is well insulated so cold air don't escape

- my friend just called me from Arkansas and she said, she said it's been a crazy winter down there

Cool post, but I have a 3 step plan for guaranteed success:
1. Buy a big fucking refrigerator
2. Put your computer/laptop in there
3. Play aoe3 all day long
Don't let the things you can't change dictate your life.

Get a heat pump and use that to extract heat from your house. Much more efficient than air conditioners.

It's so neat that the basement becomes perfect in these conditions, as it's usually a little cold in the winter down there and we sometimes use a space heater. However in the summer it becomes a really nice temp!

The main thing, at least for me, is drinking enough (i want to say a lot but there are people that take that too seriously and drink themselves to death). I can feel when theres not enough water left to sweat with, so when I feel that I just drink a few glasses extra. With enough hydratation even sunbathing at 40 C becomes viable.

Agreed, hot weather is incomplete without copious beer.

Well theres this walking event (4 or 5 days 40km) in NL and a few years ago it was super hot, like 35 degrees C, so the authorities warned for the heat and told people to drink a lot. Then two people drank more than 10 liters of water, maybe even 15 or 20, don't recall precisely, and died from that.

Water intoxication is definitely a thing - athletes have to learn to drink when thirsty, but not to excess. Drinking too much water too fast (not giving your body time to get rid of the extra) will kill you just as an excess of anything else will.

I learned something today. Even when the ear poses to be serious he is not. Shouldn't have replied with a serious answer.

So ideal hydration is to drink continuously while peeing continuously.
