Update on Maintenance - March 14th 2017

Recently, emergency maintenance was conducted on the website to help resolve an issue. The issue was resolved swiftly, but as a result of the solution a day's worth of posts may have been lost. We appreciate your patience and support.

Thank god, I got into a stupid argument about guns in off topic that I was regretting, and now ESOC lets me do that decision over .

Ouch. There goes my betting signups thread. Did you guys happen to backup the live db before restoring the old so I can see who signed up? People may not sign up again thinking they already did.

Unfortunately we do not have the data.

Re: Update on Maintenance - 03/14/17
I did worse things than this. I had my whole desktop added in Visual Studio Code as a root directory to a project, then decided there were too many unnecessary folders and files in the same project and hit Clean All when I was in Git mode. 400.000 files with all of my recent work got deleted.
Barely managed to recover the most important ones by doing physical disk searches with a hex editor (recovery programs usually can't piece together disparate parts of files from the disk, so you get like half of valid file data mixed with lots of garbled data). I did have an older backup for most files, so eventually nothing extremely important, that I couldn't recover, was lost.
So shit happens, that's why you have to have automatic ways of doing daily backups (like cron jobs for db backups on servers). You can also create periodic images of your entire site, if AWS has that feature.

That's very unfortunate. As it stands now, I feel like we should just be happy that the forums still exist.

Another reason why we shouldn't let this forum be in the hands of Geert Wilders.

Reason site went down in the first place is that the DB spontaneously lost all relevant tables. We're still investigating the cause, but I'm pretty sure we won't recover the day of data. :(

Yeah, aware of the issue -- in the process of restoring the DB, some database linkages related to our custom web services that support brackets and stuff were broken that we haven't fixed yet.
