Announcing the ESOC AUTUMN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017
Hey everyone!
Following the successful conclusion of the Warchiefs Classic, we're proud to announce our next grand Age of Empires III seasonal championship! Just like last time, the tournament will be open to all players above the rank of PR15. This tournament will feature a prize pool of $1,100 and will have a few small deviations in the rules from the last tournament. The full tournament rules will be posted shortly. If you have any questions about the rules or anything else, feel free to post in this thread!
Rule Adjustments
Discussion Thread
We decided to ban all people except the scheduling participants from posting in scheduling threads. This decision was made because many scheduling threads eventually become cluttered with spam from excited players, which hinders the participants in scheduling their game. In this tournament, we will create threads in the "Tournament Rules and Information" section in which we invite everyone to discuss players, matchups, potential strategies, and more. We realize that this change might not be everyone's favorite decision, but we do believe that this is a step in the right direction. I invite everyone who opposes this change to PM me about this issue and explain their point of view.
Maps
From the dawn of ESOC, we created map pools by picking maps from all ESOC maps and RE maps in the first few tournaments. As ESOC grew older we have now accumulated a pool of many great ESOC maps thanks to our dedicated map makers. We believe that this pool is getting too big for most players to handle, and for that reason, we have decided to create a tournament map pool from which maps will be chosen. Naturally, this tournament map pool will be smaller than the entire map pool. The tournament map pool won't change during the tournament itself.
The veto rule proved to be a great success in the last tournament. Many players delivered positive feedback and statistics showed that the variety in maps did not decrease heavily. Despite the general positivity, there was one major flaw in the veto rule that we will attempt to solve in this tournament. In the last tournament, your veto used to simply disappear if you did not veto in time. The solution sounds good in theory, but this turned out to be unenforceable and this proved to be too hard to understand for participants. From this tournament on, you will lose your veto on Friday 00:00 GMT (aka Thursday night) and as a result, the last map in the pool will be removed.
Disciplinary actions
ESOC has always been from and for the community. We started hosting tournaments as a means of bringing the community closer together and reuniting the Age of Empires III community in one place. Everyone at ESOC wants great tournaments that are fun to watch and have as little problems as possible. Unfortunately, this is an unattainable utopia. We have never been very strict in handing out punishments or bans during tournaments, simply because we'd rather talk it out with the troubling players and prevent dropouts during tournaments. In the last tournament, it became painfully apparent that some players are abusing our trust and resources. Because we still believe in the philosophy of bringing the community together in a positive environment, we will not be handing out any bans or in-game restrictions to tournament series in the future. Instead of that, we will start cutting a percentage of the earnings of worrisome participants if they do not follow the rules. More information about offenses and punishments will be in the full rules thread.
The signups will open on Monday, October 16th. Follow our Twitter and Facebook to stay up to date on the latest developments!

Not a fan. Screw PMs this is public discussion. I think I even expressed this back when I was shtaff. The ability to participate in scheduling threads with players as a spectator was very unique. Maybe getting to egg on players susceptible to salt a little more in a harmless manner and be a part of the rivalry and get to take sides in a public manner or make a good joke was something I enjoyed. I understand the reasoning behind it but oh well. I hardly felt the amount of input from other users became too much. This now just seems like even more division of threads. Too many areas of ESOC to keep track of and with more division of these types of things participation declines.
The tournament map pool won't change during the tournament itself.
Interesting. Any idea the number of maps in total? I'm worried as a viewer of stale maps and because of that stale play styles throughout the entire tournament much like we saw with restricted MUs in TWC tourney.
All together though I'm looking forward to another tournament! It seems there is never no tournament that isn't happening or close to being in the works. Good stuff!

Not sure whether the pool is finalized, but I don't think it will feature any RE maps.
