ASC Summer round of 16

Post by Goodspeed »

As we head into the later stages of the event, the matches are getting better and better. It would've been a calm weekend when it comes to tournament content because the round of 16 has been extended and only 3 of the matches have been played, but the results have been quite surprising. First of all there was ACERGAME09 upsetting diarouga 3-0 with some nice anti-meta play and then there was Fard taking down Garja 3-2, a close high level series which could've gone either way. This caused some commotion in the betting event, where diarouga was favoured 4 to 1 and Garja was favoured 6 to 1.

4 exciting matches are yet to be played and after today, who knows what to expect? Check out the [a href="http://eso-community.net/thread/1914/ro16-stream-schedule"]stream schedule[/a] (subject to change), the matches are likely to be played next weekend.

[div style="text-align:center'"][span style="font-weight:bold'font-size:large'"]Blackstar_OP vs Cohenski[/span][/div]One could say it's the first time the Spring Champion will actually be tested. After a couple of walkovers he is meeting Cohenski, who is not to be underestimated. He's been around a long time and beat Black_XIII_T 3-2 last week showing solid play. Still though, the big favourite to win is of course Blackstar who most people are expecting will go the distance in this event, and for good reason.

[div style="text-align:center'"][b style="font-size:large'"]Samwise12 vs PrinceofKabul[/b][/div]After Sam's close 3-2 victory over mongo10, people are questioning his ability to hold his own in the current meta. This match will show if he can overcome that weakness, and if he does we can expect him to do well. There's still a strong player with a good understanding of this game beneath all the rust, after all. But in any case I don't think we can expect PrinceofKabul to go down easy. He's one of the good nilla scrubs, showing a strong record with many different civs. The question at this point is, how well prepared are these players to face each other?

[div style="text-align:center'"][b style="font-size:large'"]IAmSoldieR vs Mitoe[/b][/div]Another tough call. Both players have been looking solid overall, but are j?st missing that little edge that separates them from the league of Blackstar and H2O. Let's see what happened last event. Mitoe got upset by Veni in a close series and Veni went on to reach the semi-finals. SoldieR lost 4-1 to H2O in the quarter-finals, being the only other player besides Blackstar to take a game off of H2O. These are players we can't overlook, the finals are not far now and they are eager to take a spot. Winner of this plays against the winner of Sam vs Prince.

[div style="text-align:center'"][b style="font-size:large'"]kiljardi vs goongoon[/b][/div]Kiljardi has been looking solid this event. He hasn't dropped a game, handily took out the underrated Bart331 3 to 0, but is now facing the force that is goongoon. Goongoon, who has also not dropped a game, is still looking to prove himself after hitting Blackstar early in the bracket last tournament. He could get far this time, another 2600 player with a solid understanding of the current meta. Could go either way as well!

Needless to say this round of 16 is shaping up to be a memorable chapter in ASC history. After the matches today I don't know about you, but I'm scared to even bet any of my points any more. Upsets are looking all too common...
Keep in mind everyone that we are still [a href="http://eso-community.net/page/donate"]looking for donations[/a] towards future events. Funding for the winter event is now sitting at ~40%. Any contribution, big or small, helps us continue to bring you the same quality AoE3 content we are now :)
