RO64 Preview

It’s time for the RO64. We will finally get to see the seeded players in action in an attempt to prove that they were worth the seed. This round features a somewhat more standard mappool than last week. The series start off on the rather standard and very popular Kamchatka, followed up by the somewhat larger Baja California, and last but not least Bengal, one of the few maps that does not feature a TP line. There are, as every round, 5 matches to bet on, which we shall preview, along with some other interesting matches.

NOTE: Due to the overwhelming amount of people who are either not scheduling or cannot play in the weekend, we have decided to remove the Saturday stream for now. There will still be a Saturday Smackdown by ZutaZuta and there will also still be a Sunday stream. We hope to see you there!

Thursday, January 14th:

Bart331 vs Armada89, 20:00 - 21:00 (Betting Match)
Armada, better known as umeu to many of us, vs Bart, the eternal student. This is a deceptively close match up on our eyes. While Umeu seems to be the clear favorite, players that have played versus Bart know that he is certainly not to be underestimated. Bart is a smart player, that is very capable of giving someone like Umeu a hard time. Umeu however is no joke at all, and has been tipped as a potential candidate for top 4 by multiple players. The betting standings, as of right now, give an indication of what people think of the match: the payouts are 1.07 for umeu versus 16.26 for Bart. Having played both players quite often, we think these do not represent the actual difference in skill level. While Umeu is still the uncontested favorite for this match up, Bart might very well take a game off of him or just take the win. We predict a 2-1 for Umeu.

kynesie vs PoniPoika, 21:00 - 22:00
Kynesie, the master of walls vs the relatively unknown PoniPoika. PoniPoika took out his opponent in the RO128 quite convincingly and is by no means a bad player, however Kynesie is surely a force to be reckoned with. The master of walling and water laming, of lagging the game to a point where most mortals want to give up, the master of the lategame, is an impressive player. Finishing in the RO8 in both spring and summer, he is surely someone to look out for. The question is, how much have the wall + water changes nerfed Kynesie and his unique playstyle, and how many water maps will we see? In this round, theres only one somewhat notable water map in Baja California, which isn’t the greatest for Kynesie. However, the skill gap between him and his opponent is so large that we expect him to win 2-0 regardless.

ramex12 vs jsimons1289, 22:00 - 23:00
The team player Ramex12, the unofficial brother of Veni, vs jsimons1289. A very high level game, with a colonel facing off against a lt colonel. Jsimons isn’t the most well known figure in the community, but is a strong player regardless. Ramex is a team player however, a disciple of Veni so to say. Since the veni law didnt fail in Tibia’s match in the RO128, we will predict a 2-1 for Ramex

Sunday, January 17th:

farran34 vs mongo10, 15:30 - 17:00

_H2O vs Zoi, 17:00 - 18:30

Aizamk vs CoupRider, 18:30 - 20:00 (Betting Match)

GoodSpeed vs Tibia, 20:00 - 21:30 (Betting Match)
Goodspeed, aka Highweed, vs the streaming maniak Tibia. Tibia faced a strong opponent in the RO128, dropping the first game. He managed to get ahold of himself though, and came back to take the series 2-1 and advance to play Goodspeed. Goodspeed, possibly best known for creating guides as if they are books, used to be a great player. Apperantly he used to go 40/60 against samwise in their practice games back when he was in his top shape. His form has declined long since, and the once amazing player has detiorated into an FI’ing machine. If the meta ever were to change into an FI meta, maybe Goodspeed would be a top player again, but it has not done so yet. Therefore, we predict Tibia to be able to top the rusty Goodspeed in a close 2-1.

LordCharlie_131 vs Garja, 21:30 - 23:00

All games will be streamed via the ESOCTV Official Twitch Channel: https://www.twitch.tv/esoctv (All Times are GMT+0)

Currently unscheduled:
Jerom_ vs Cohenski (Betting Match)
Cohenski, he who praises our Dictator like he is Sauron himself, vs Jerom, the great collector of posts. On paper this is a rollover for Cohenski, having the much higher rank and ELO. However, looking somewhat closer at Cohenski’s ELO, we can see that he has barely been playing recently. Jerom on the other hand played quite well in the RO128, showing that the one trick pony might have secretly managed to master some other civs. This series is interesting, since it is almost impossible to judge how rusty Cohenski will be. The series might be a close, or a walkover for either player. We predict that the talent will outscale the practice just barely, so that Cohenski will beat barely beat Jerom 2-1.
The schedule has not been filled out completely, but we will make sure to get as many matches scheduled as possible. Keep an eye on this thread, as every new match up shall of course be accompanied by a preview. We're looking forward to see all of you tune in tonight and upcoming weekend for this great set of matches. Don't worry if you miss it though, the VODs will be uploaded to the youtube shortly afterwards.

I just hope DE is not going to implement all of the EP changes. Right now it is a big clusterfuck.
