ESOC Grand Finals today!

Post by MCJim »

Today is a glorious day to die. _H2O vs LordRaphael! Make sure to bet in time and donā€™t forget to tune in! We kick things off at 16 GMT with the bronze match between diarouga and kynesie casted from recorded games. Afterwards, at 19 GMT, we move onto the Grand Finals! It will be streamed live by our casting duo Interjection & Zutazuta on both Twitch and YouTube. If you haven't read the Finals preview yet, make sure to check it out! Twitch will be the main stream as always and YouTube will be a lower quality stream. See you in chat! ;)

Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/esoctv
YouTube: https://gaming.youtube.com/c/EsocommunityNetVideos/live

Along with the finals, we have more news to announce. We listened to your demands, and so ESOC now has a Twitter account! Follow us for updates on streams, YouTube videos, tourney matches, site news and more! The Twitter will also appear on the front page. https://twitter.com/ESOCommunity

But wait.. There's more!

WOW! During last week's stream you guys appeared to be more generous than we thought. We had launched the option to donate prior to the stream in the hopes of getting the Summer Championships funded, and we could not have hoped any better. Remember, without donations the ESOC events will cease to exist. We are glad the community thinks that it has not seen its end and that we still stand strong.

As of now, the Spring Championships are 71% funded, which comes down to $781 out of $1100! We would like to thank everyone who donated, particularly the top 10 donators, who are responsible for funding almost the entire tournament! Thank you Zutazuta, GamingViolinist, GoodSpeed, Jerom, Purple_Squid, FightingFrenchman (aka ear), iwillspankyou, IAmSoldier, Garja, and GeroKatseros

Supremacy (rush as you call it) is way more popular than Treaty, therefore there are more tournaments of this type.

There are two game types: Supremacy and Deathmatch. Supremacy is divided into Standard (rush) and Treaty.

Congrats to H2O finally winning his first ESOC Tournament which he really deserved certainly. Each game being pretty close but always having the better end for H2O which just shows how strong he is, especially in close situations.
Looking forward to the Spring Championship and it would be extremely entertaining to see Blackstar being back, maybe even seeing him play Ryan again. I think we all want a rematch!

Since this this a thread about the grand finals and they are now past, I'd like to say my opinion about this. So, basically I didn't expect a straight 5-0 for _h2o, because LordRaphael is extremely good actually. He won 4-1 vs samwise which is a legend of this game and judging from his elo and random aiz/heroes streams, he has proven to be the only one to have a chance against mankle. You guys call this series " close " but it wasn't obviously. Mankle was just better than raph, no doubts about that. I would call the spring championship final very close, not the winter one. 5-0 is still a very sad final score because from a final I was expecting at least two victories from one of the players, not a straight rekt. Also, I can't believe Lordraphael decided to go Russian vs Indian in the last game, I was angry about that and I was even thinking about log in and tell him : please don't play that MU. That's obviously a better MU for indian and raph decided to risk right that moment, where the game could've been decisive for the series. Also, I feel sad because many players are retiring from the game, of course this is an old game so I can't really complain about that but you can see like 500 people watched the final when instead in the spring championship finals 950 people were watching. I wonder about how long this game will keep alive and if blackstar will come back, but personally I think he won't, unfortunately. That's all, anyway well played both and thanks again to the tournament staff for made another nice tournament, I really hope there will be another one, very soon.

If rapha can beat samwise12 4-1 and H2O can beat rapha 5-0, what will be the score between H2O and Samwsie in BO21 ?

-I am still waiting for the real finals where i will see close games tho.

Tournament was nice, for sure. We saw many good games, incredible series and a lot of matchups. About the viewer count though, keep in mind the Spring championships were streamed on the official channel which has a lot more followers. Another thing is that the series lasted incredibly long: 5-4. During this stream the viewer count was growing, so if it would've been a 5-4 as well, we would be closer to the Spring viewer count.

But who cares about viewer counts, players have showed how good they actually are and there's a lot of new content out there. It was a lot of fun for me doing this and I'm looking forward to the next one! Congrats to _H2O for winning his first ESOC Tournament and don't forget LordRaphael is an incredibly good player too, definitely a number 2 ;)
Tourney + Finals are up on YouTube by the way. Game 1, 3 and 5 on Interjections channel and game 2 and 4 on ESOCTV's channel. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7qYt-N ... ObLeA7SsSp

ryan is experienced with nearly every civ while rapha doesnt. that's why 5-0. fre vs japan (on mongolia) and russia vs india are defenitely bad MUs for him.

Indeed. I'd say 650 isn't bad at all for such a short series!

This is the real finals. The last three games were close.

Its just what happens in finals. They are hyped up the most and usually disappoint the most.

I think this was a typical case of H2O just being better at playing finals (he's done it much more than anyone except maybe samwise atm) and that really matters. Raphael seemed affected by the pressure of this being the finals in all his decisions, which is very much so understandable. The games were closer than the score suggested though.

It's a rush-oriented fan site, so yeah. If you want something else host it - the ESOC staff have already shown that they are willing to let other people host tournaments here. TheCometK and some members of the TR community threw together their own tourney and prize pool not so long ago, and it all took place on ESOC.

We will continue to focus on Rush events. Though we are looking at smaller events where we can mix up the format. By and large the community donating and the competitive scene is in rush. We remain open to some of the treaty players wanting to host events with us in the future and it just takes a little organization and cash to make that happen!

imo the frequency of tournament needs to reduce. These tournaments need a lot of commitment from the players for a very long time so it is best not to have it so frequently
