Hey everyone!

In the midst of the finals of the 2v2 invitational, which are going on right now at twitch.tv/esoctv, we are proud to announce our next seasonal championships! Like all of the preceding seasonal championships, this tournament will be open to all players above the rank of PR15. For the extremely competitive players out there this tournament will be especially interesting, because the ESOC Spring Championships 2017 will feature the largest prize pool in ESOC history -- $1500!

Rule Adjustments

We've decided to change a few rules, learning from previous experiences. First of all, we're introducing a veto system in order to allow players to slightly alter the mappool to their wishes. Secondly, we're changing the group stages a little bit. And lastly, we would like to clarify some of the smaller rules.

Veto System

The veto system allows you to veto (=ban) a map from the given map pool. The map pools for the entire tournament will be posted shortly in the rules thread. For a more detailed overview, check out the spoiler.
• From the bracket stages only (RO128)
 • One veto per BO3 & BO5. Two vetoes per BO7
 • Consequently the map pool will have two more maps in a BO3 & BO5 and four more maps in a BO7
 • The player with the highest 1v1 ELO at the time of seeding will pick their veto first
 • The tournament admins will mention in the scheduling thread who has the highest ELO at the time of seeding.
 • Veto must be issued in the scheduling thread by Thursday
 • Failure to issue the veto in time will result in your opponent receiving your veto; essentially giving them two vetoes
 • If both players fail to issue their veto in time, the last two maps will automatically be removed
 • After vetoes have been issued, maps will move down one spot. Refer to the example down below

The map pool for a BO3 is:
1) ESOC Manchuria
2) ESOC Indonesia
3) ESOC Arkansas
4) ESOC Kamchatka
5) ESOC Fertile Crescent

Player 1 has an ELO of 2100
Player 2 has an ELO of 2200

Player 2 issues his veto first.

Player 2 bans ESOC Arkansas
Player 1 bans ESOC Manchuria

The new map pool for a BO3 is:

1) ESOC Manchuria
2) ESOC Indonesia
3) ESOC Arkansas
4) ESOC Kamchatka
5) ESOC Fertile Crescent

Therefore:

1) ESOC Indonesia
2) ESOC Kamchatka
3) ESOC Fertile Crescent
The Group Stages

The group stages have been a problem for many players. Players often feel like they are treaten unfairly because they didn't manage to play their final crucial game because they opponent disappeared. For both the player and the tournament admins, this is a problematic dilemma, and there is no ideal solution. To combat this problem, we are reducing the amount of groups (relative to players) and adding a few wildcard slots. The wildcard slots function as a tool to allow disadvantaged players to advance to the bracket stages regardless, even if they did not place in the top two of their group.

Rules Clarification

In the past tournaments it has come to our attention that some players neglect the smaller but necessary rules. We would like to remind everyone that the tournament rules are there to be followed, and that we will guide the players more into following these rules.

Building Rotator: The use of the rotator mod is banned. The first offense will lead to an official warning from the potential caster and the tournament admins*. The second offense will lead to a map loss. The third offense will lead to a disqualification.

* = If the rotator mod is game breaking, by for example rotating your buildings to wall off your base, this will lead to a map loss immediately without any preceding warning.

Recorded Games: Tournament games must be recorded and the recorded games must be posted in the corresponding subforum. The casters will try to remind the players to record the game, but ultimately this is the responsibility of the players themselves. We ask everyone to remind themselves to record their tournament games!

Signups!

You can sign up HERE (Or click the button below)

NOTE: To combat players not showing up, you will have to check in one week before the start of the tournament, which is in one month. If you do not check in, your signup will be invalid. We will do our best to remind everyone to check in in time.

nice!

Good idea to see veto system implemented as well as checkin. And the groups change looks to be a promising solution.

$1500 is interesting. At least you will have more control now over those idiot players who act like 12 year old kids.

Actually 12th place takes home $1000 and then the person in 43rd place gets $500. It's a very innovative prize distribution.

Sweeeat. Why the increase in prize money? I thought the more spread out prizes for multiple events was a nice idea

We are lucky to have a significant amount of money right now so we decided to try something different. Thanks to all our wonderful donators as always!

i have given my opinion on this matter various times.
Short: more events, lesser prizepool for big events. Ofc if you can afford to throw 1.5 k at one tourney and still fund minor tourneys maybe even 1 day toureny, you can increase the prize pool for the majors as much as you want. But if it goes at the expense of smaller tourneys its bad

Basically for first few season tournaments some funded was being done during the tournament. Most donation come in semi finals-finals of tournament. Then in the last one I believe they went smaller because they wanted to have all the prize money before the tournament started. So it could be guaranteed. and then of course most of the donations came in the semi finals-finals so they then just had a ton of unused money.

I don't get the building-rotator rule. Using it to wall more effectively results in an instant map loss. But what else would one even use it for?
