Why does off-topic need to be split into three sections?
I still don't get it. Creates more work for mods and is just confusing. Not sure what the benefits are seeing as the volume of posts here isn't that high.

This is one of man's deepest philosophical questions.

Re: Why does off-topic need to be split into three sections?
It is down to two sections rather than three, and they're partitioned differently. The sports and other games sections are now both rolled into what was previously News and Culture, making a true real life section. The other section is more of an ESOC meta section. I think your point, though, is that both sections are nested within another forum when they could be flattened, which is understandable. We're still experimenting with the new changes and will see how this one works out for now , but we're open to revising it later.

I guess I just don't understand the need for an 'archive'

We just didn't really feel like moving less than 640 topics to new sections, you know :')

We could have called all the out-dated topics 'the basement' but that might have caused controversy.

The archive may not be permanent, but I didn't feel like sorting out 600 threads that weren't used anyways. Members get the chance now to revive old threads from there, and the rest will be moved to a hidden board or be removed, most likely.

the forum already has an archive. it's very convenient since it doesnt require you to move 600+ threads. It's called page 2.

Don't delete old threads, why would you do that

Removed seems a little strong.
Re: Why does off-topic need to be split into three sections?
Yeah definitely don't remove anything.
Moving the 600 threads should be doable with a simple database query. Ask dev team.

I know, I can even do it without any query by using the admin panel. The effort is not moving the threads, but sorting them into either the Real-life or the ESOC board.
Only threads I consider removing are those that are locked and have 1 post.
Re: Why does off-topic need to be split into three sections?
Ah I see, that comes back to the discussion raised by the OP. I don't think a single person who actually posts in off topic was in favour of splitting it into multiple sections. Just throw it all together and everyone's happy.
Re: Why does off-topic need to be split into three sections?
I don't know about splitting off topic into three sections but I am not a fan of getting rid of any forum content, if it can be helped.
Re: Why does off-topic need to be split into three sections?
I'm in favor of removing off topic.

I'll literally leave if I see any more AoE-related topics in my Off-topic.

I agree with OP, cos right now "off topic" is confusing to read.

This is a sufficient way to archive posts.
